Holiday drop out

Options
Dear all,

Please could I ask for your help?

We’re due to go away to Las Vegas, four of us. The trip is fully paid, and each traveller has paid their way. One friend is now unable to travel, and has “pulled out”. What are the implications of this? Do I need to let the airline know? Can we still go just the three of us!

Comments

  • There are no implications, you travel as planned, if the 4th person has cancelled for insurable reasons, they can make a claim for their losses. If not, the rest of you go and have a great holiday
  • Could you trawl around for a substitute fourth person ?

No, they will be just another 'no-show', nothing unusual. If they have insurance and able to make a valid claim which requires cancellation of flight, they can do that.

The group have paid all money up front before the one person dropped out so no problem with that.

Yes but they have the money for 4 so isn't that OK?

As long as the other passenger doesn't expect any of their money back from you it's no issue. They'll need to claim on their insurance if it's something they can claim for.

If you do cancel their flight they can get a very small tax refund (only a few pounds), it may not be worth it though. Hotel is no issue, it just means you have more room!
