I am surprised so many of you have starters.
I've never known/had a starters on Xmas Day (or actually any other meal)
I'd rather make room for more turkey/yorkshire to be honest.0 -
Same as you PasturesNew, never have starters - not even in a restaurant - it's just too much food!
Christmas day
Breakfast - full English for those that want it, toast and/or cereal for the rest.
Lunch - Roast turkey (there will be a mutiny if I get it from M&S as last year it was a complete disappointment, so ordered in advance from the butcher), roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, peas, carrots, Brussels sprouts, broccoli (we like our veg!) and gravy. Pudding - Christmas pudding and custard as no-one likes brandy butter, or ice cream.
Tea - cold turkey, sausage rolls, cold meats, salad, crusty bread
Boxing day
Breakfast - as Christmas day
Lunch - roast beef with all the trimmings. Pudding - ice cream, or maybe a cheesecake. One year a did a kind of mincemeat parcel using filo pastry that was nice.
Tea - as Christmas day
Don't make a fuss on New Year's Eve - possibly a roast of some sort.Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.
Decluttering - January 2024 - 89 physical objects, over 700 emails/digital decluttering 🎊 🏅🏅0 -

heres my boring menu for xmas day
breakfast
bacon sarnies, I like the croissants and oj idea but family would never forgive me
Dinner
no starter,
I like a huge dinner, we will have baby roasties, mash with cheese in, carrots, broccoli, brussels, roast parsnips, stuffing and pigs in blankets. The meat will probally be beef as OH doesnt like turkey, I would like no meat and a veggie option but OH looked at me like I lost the plot when I suggested it
pudding will be xmas pud and icecream for me, profiteroles for OH and DS
followed by a sleep
tea will just be meat and salad sandwichs, crisps and mince pies if I remember to do them.0 -
Christmas morning I shall be at work cooking scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for me and my colleague (she's the only one I would cook for, so it could be worse!) Going home to whatever DH cooks for dinner (probably a curry).
Boxing day we are having the family over for lunch (that'll be 12 of of us), unfortunately I will be at work again so DH and my Mum will have to do it between them with me on the phone! Hopefully I'll roll in at 14.30 ish just in time for it to be served!
Never had a starter at Christmas, but turkey, chestnut stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast and mashed pots, roast parsnips, carrots, fine beans, something other veg, to be decided, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and gravy. Christmas pud, brandy butter and alcoholic and non-alcoholic trifle!
Tea will have to be turkey sandwiches and pickled onions etc, I have no space for any of this, but it's OH's family tradition!0 -
Have to say mine is more like Pasturesnew's menu than anybody elses !!

Mainly coz its just me and my 2 kids, no family/friends so I tend to take it easy on xmas day
Breakfast ?? erm dont eat breakfast, kids will probably have some chocs
Dinner HAS to be chicken (youngest wont eat anything else) & beef, Roasties, mashed pots, peas, carrots, sprouts, yorkshires, tons of gravy. There is always loads left over so the kids go for 2nd's !!
No pudding as I have yet to find a chirstmas pudding or mince pies without Orange peel in them !! (I detest orange peel)
Tea ?? nope too stuffed after eating dinner as usually cook it ready for 3pm ish. Until about 9pm ish when I will delve into some satsumas and choc brazils (even if I am stuffed this is something I always do) Some chocolate yule log for kids, no xmas cake as kids dont like it lol
Boxing day = Same as xmas day, again only us 3 here so we do it all over again, then the same on New years day.
I wouldnt get the thanks or apprectiation if I cooked anything other than what I normally do each year. It would all be wasted and end up in the bin & to be honest I cant afford to waste, specially at xmas time. So we have what we know we will like & eat

We have 'party for tea' which is sausage rolls, cold meats, pickles etc, then go to church for xmas mass and then settle down for a xmas movie with homemade choccy biccies and milk. (I say xmas movie but I prefer Shrek, lol)
I can see you are a manchester poster! Our famiy also has "party teas"
Me & OH and doglette are up to my parents in MCr for Xmas day then down to OHs folks for Boxing day ( bournemouth!) Phew! Theres about 30 -odd people coming on Xmas day to my folks, so theres a LOT of food.
Xmas eve is either some sort of frozen monstrosity courtesy of the parents ( "theres pizzas in the freezer") so we'll probably have a chinese. Dad is prepping the Xmas day meal from about 3 days before LOL so best to keep out of his way- hes nearly as much of a control freak as i am
Xmas day, always starts with a selection of fmaily faves- bacon barms/ sausage barms/ scotch pancakes/ crumpets/ potato cakes!
Loads of peanuts/chocs/ trail mix/ twiglets/ crisps all over the house
Starter. Im not 100% what hes doing this year, last he did stuffed mushrooms, with melon for the tradionalists ( i hate melon) I expect he'll do something hes seen on Jamie Oliver
Main is turkey, stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, roast pots, snips, peas, roast carrots, yorkies, pigs in blankets, gravy, sweetcorn fritters, cauli & broccoli and chestnuts.
Pud will be Xmas pudding- a traditional one, then some sort of modern version ( please not the choc orange one again - gross!)
Mince pies, lizzie shaws, after 8s, liquers. teas and coffees.
then a "party tea" as we have yet more people coming over it wil be turkey, a beef joint, ham, a pork pie, selection of breads, salad, crisps, breadsticks, hm dips, a selection of spring rolls/ samosas/ bhajias/ filo prawns, ( whatevers going on in M&S I expect!) a pizza, possibly chicken drumsticks, sausage rolls, cheeseboard, crackers. Xmas cake, then gatueax ( usually a traditional black forest- even tho no one likes it or eats it!) plus boxes of bisc & tins of chocs galore.
Inlaws - Ive no idea whats on the menu, but hope they dont go to too mcuh trouble! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Glad to hear there are others who don't do starters. I hate doing them, even for dinner parties but for Christmas dinner I don't think I could squeeze them in.
We have lots of chestnuts here, with sprouts, in stuffing, in christmas log. I love them. The only other thing I haven't seen mentioned here is Delia's parmesan parsnips which are so tasty. Lots of bread sauce and cranberry too. I love making puds so usually a torte, trifle or this year I fancy trying a gin and tonic jelly, some ice-cream home made), and sticky toffee puddings in the freezer just-in-case.
Bagels or stollen for christmas breakfast with bucks fizz or straight champagne and then booze with everything until NY; port, sherry, wine, champagne, G&T, brandy and now bottles of flavoured vodka sat in the fridge! Oh, and Baileys:-)0 -
Mmm!! Everything sounds so yummy!
I'm moving house a week on monday so this will be the first year I've had xmas at my house! Can't wait!
Xmas eve we're having a party with what we call "picky bits!" Salads, cold meats, bread, pickles, cheeses, homemade sausage rolls, hm goats cheese and feta tarts, dips etc. We're also doing "retro" cheese and pineapple on sticks! I know it's naff but if we call it "retro" it seems more trendy!
I've also got some fab xmas shaped tortilla chips from M&S!! Homemade trifle without sherry - yuck! I hate the taste of sherry!
Xmas day breakfast - small "fry" (grill) up! With bucks fizz!
Mid morning visit from relatives - ferreo rochers and tea all round!!
Lunch approx 2pm - Prawn cocktail with brown bread,
Turkey, beef, roasties, roast parsnips, mini sausages, sausage meat & stuffing balls wrapped in bacon, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peas, baby leeks, gravey and bread sauce.
Xmas pud for dd and my mother, icecream for me and my brother!
Xmas day supper at about 9pm - cold meats, salad, cheeses, pickles etc (basically whatever is left over from xmas eve!)
Boxing day is cold meat, bubble and squeak and pickles.
I break up from work on the 20th and don't go back until the 2nd or 3rd of January so apart from having a blow out xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day I've got to be really careful not to really pack the weight on sitting at home watching xmas films and stuffing chocolates!!:eek:Joined SW 24/02/2011 :j71lb/28.5lb-6, -2.5, -2, -1, -2 -, -2 sow, +3

Cheese and pineapple is naff??!! I adore the stuff.
For us christmas eve will be something simple that doesn't involve to much cooking, ham ,egg and chips probably.
Christmas morning I like to experiment and try new things out (we had french toast casserole last year) this year we are staying at dps brothers house so think it will be a cooked breakfast no doubt followed by chocolate from dd1s selection box
Christmas day - usual turkey and trimmings followed by christmas pudding. We will be coming home after the dinner and I will be uy getting everything done for boxing day so will keep things simple for tea and all have dd1s favorite of dippy eggs and soldiers.
Boxing day -mulled cider and a mince pie when people arrive.
Later a big buffet, cold meat - roast beef this year with a mustard crumb coating, prawns with marie rose sauce, baked camembert cheese, homemade pork pie well hopefully if the recipe works, dips with crudities & breadsticks, rice salad, green salad, cheese board and crackers, bbq chicken wings, and trifle and christmas cake to follow both from Delia and are a must have for me.
And as I always do far to much, me and dp will be eating the above for a good couple of days afterwards
