Hi, my wife and I are looking at putting an offer in on a house. I am a first time buyer but my wife is not. Could we still claim the first time buyer relief?

Does your wife currently own a property? If so, the higher rates of SDLT might apply to the purchase. If not and you alone buy the property, first time buyers’ relief is not out of the question.0

You (two people as a couple) are jointly buying a house.
You (one person of the couple) has previously owned a property.
Are you (couple) FTBs?
Well, what do you think?0 -

big difference between:According to the bank we are (jointly) classed as first time buyers. I thought it was a valid consideration.
- what a lender will do to make money off you by selling you stuff because they "attract" with an "incentive"
- what the Govt will allow you in terms of not paying tax ....
your position re tax is explained by the Govt https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/stamp-duty-land-tax-relief-for-first-time-buyers-guidance-note0 -
Indeed! I just wanted to pose the question. I’ve read and re read through a couple of relevant pages on that website and on one page it looked possible and another it didn’t, hence seeking advice on here.0
