Thomas Cook - paid by gift card

Hi,

We’ve booked a package deal for October but my concern is that we paid with gift cards. Our employer offers a perk scheme where you buy gift cards saving you 5% on the cost of your holiday.
If (and I appreciate it is a big if) our holiday is cancelled, and we have the ATOL certificate, does anyone know where you stand if you’ve paid with a gift card?

I am in the same boat as you, and this has had me worrying since May when the first news broke. I bought e-gift cards through my work scheme too.

From what I can gather we should be fine, as we have ATOL certificates, it shouldn't matter how we paid. After a gift card is spent, it looks to me though it is treated the same as if you'd paid by debit card. An unspent voucher or gift card is different and has no protection.

Hopefully someone else will be along to reassure us.

So long as you have used the gift certificate it should be fine if you have an ATOL Certificate which shows the cost paid. Anyone with an unused gift voucher is likely to be at the bottom of the pile if the business fails, but let's be positive, it hasn't failed yet.
