Never had a nut that tight that a breaker bar will not move or snap off.impact wrenches are great for releasing large number of bolts/nuts to speed up jobs.
If you have to buy a impact wrench buy the best that you can afford as cheap ones will not last or do a good job on stubborn bolts/nuts.

They don't do pulley bolts as you end up just winding up the clutch springs (unless you lock the flywheel first); but an impact gun is great for pulley bolts as you don't need to waste time locking up the flywheel.

    Hi

I really needed an impact wrench for taking off the lower control arm. Unfortunately i only had a breaker bar, despite being 60cm long i coukd not get the big nut off of it to take it off to change the bush.

Ended up having to take it to a mechanic who charged £45 per side to for the job.

Lidl have this really cheap one for sale. I was wondering if the spec on these are any good.

They have a corded one too at 500nm

Looks like the same body as the 10.8v 300nM one I bought. Great for undoing wheel bolts, but not really upto anything serious. Mine seem to be failing now as it often just spins rather than impacting.

Except on my old Triumph 1300, where the standard method was apply big bar, brace against chassis leg, hit starter motor :D

The dewalt has over 1000nm+ but it comes at a price.
Very nearly bought one recently with two batteries. Not cheap as you say.
Was disappointed to find YouTube reviews and forum posts saying that in some cases they struggled/stalled with wheel nuts! The Milwaukee version got rave reviews, big bucks though.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?
  • I got the lidl one, grabbed the last one from the store. The bins next to it wth the corded ones looks completely untouched.

That's very unlikely, did you get a variety of different reviews, and are you sure it's their 1000nm model? They make various ones at different specs.

I never used an impact wrench before, there was someone trying to undo wheel bolts with lidl impact driver. He/it struggled a bit, and everyone in the comments was tearing him a new one because he was trying to do it one handed and ofcourse it didn't work well because the tool didn't have anything to kick off against.

It was the dcf899, 1/2 hog ring @ 950nm. Breakaway tq (IIRC) nearly twice that?
The 'reviews' though were compered to american products!! Still looking into one though.

I just bought the mains one :D

More importantly, they have possibly the greatest gadget ever invented for £1.99, a microfibre cloth on a stick. Now I can actually wipe the mist off my windscreen from the driving seat, like in The Olden Days (when everything was better). My windscreen is about 6 feet away, and being a [STRIKE]Renault[/STRIKE] Nissan, the air-con broke years ago, and it mists up instantly if I breathe out. ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
