  • Upgrades in the new G5 iMac are a breeze apparently. Most parts are what Apple class as 'customer installable'. The iBook is like any laptop - some parts are upgradeable (HD, RAM, etc).

All Macs now bundle one of the best music production apps around (GarageBand) along with movie creation, photo manipulation, and of course iTunes and an Office suite that's compatible with MS Office (or you can use MS Office if you want). So all lofty needs is a DJ app, and there are several of them around.

And you're right. They *are* sexy.

    Wot? No flames yet? :P

I would like to add the warantee available is an important consideration when choosing a laptop. Dell for instance do up to 3 years next business day, whereas if you choose the much cheaper return to base waranties you will be without the machine for several days even for minor faults.
Go for a long warranty period as well, laptops can have a hard life and unlike desktop machines the major (lcd and motherboard) laptop components are not standard and will be (very) expensive to replace.

Macs can do all and more that Windows systems do, and can integrate with Windows totally. If anyone tells you otherwise, they just don't know what they're talking about.

If you don't like Macs, that's another matter, but don't rule them out because of bad information. Best of luck in getting what you want anyway.

Mac OS X is definitely *different* to XP but doesn't take much to pickup. The tools are just in different places I reckon. As a user of both I'd say that OS X is actually faster and easier to drive (fewer mouse clicks, more power at hand), and less frustrating. And definitely cooler.

Well, there is a new Dell desktop here for under £200:

    http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Urgents;action=display;num=1097274403

And you can get a new laptop from https://www.ebuyer.com or https://www.novatech.co.uk for around £500 - you won't even need a flatscreen monitor because you can plug your laptop into your PC (but why do you need a PC if you have a laptop? - just buy a big monitor?).

(I guess you need to spend the £1500? - in which case do it all at novatech and ebuyer)

I don't agree with the person that said to stay away from Dell. My son has been in computing, he's a web developer, and has had Dell computers for over 10 years and wouldn't have anything else. I have one, which I have had for over 3yrs now, and all our friends have one recommed by my son.
Phone them and tell them what you want, and if you don't know they will help you.
