No point mentioning discount sites because as lofty said, he has been given £1500 by the SAAS. That doesn't mean in cash though. He'll have to go out and buy a computer and give them a receipt to prove that the money was spent on the right thing. I think MESH will be a good bet. More choice with respects to add ons. Another great option would be Carrera. I'd definitely go for these two before Dell.

    Lofty,

Just read one of your posts and realised you said your will use it for music and djiing. Strangely enough my friend has just bought a laptop from a specialist company that builds computers for all the big name DJs. Just bought Nick Warrens (Way Out West) new cd and their whole album was made on computers built by the same company.

Leave it with me and I'll find out the name.

Have you looked at Evesham? I hear they are very good. Also I think at Novatech you can configure your own PC.

  • I realize I'll get some flames for this from die-hard closed-minded peecee types, but have you thought about Apple Macs?

You can get one of the new all-in-one G5 iMacs (a 2 inch thick box the size of a normal PC monitor that holds *all* the electronics) and an iBook laptop for £1600 with student discount (click on the Education link from the Apple store <www,apple.com/ukstore>). Add in an iPod for £200 (which gives you a £130 student cash-back) and you're quids in, with a setup that'll give you lots of beer money left, much more deskspace (not to mention extra floor space), an unmatchable after sales and warranty service, and all the envy factor you could ever need. It'll also outlast a PC setup by several years.
