Lush walrus is right - remember how mad we all went for borders in the early 90s - they look awful now!!

Creams and Browns are the must have colours at the moment, but there was a time, again in the early 90s, when Magnolia was considered 'too old fashioned'.

I have hit a happy medium with my front room so far - having previously been very into the cluttered style, now have laminate floor, lovely neutral walls etc, but have blinds and curtains, a few pieces of dark wood indian furniture, big sqodgy sofa with lots of textures, lamps etc. (It is a big room, so still has masses of unused space).

I think the key is when you mix styles, to take elements from both that you like, and combine them in a way which works for you. I have a few ornamental pieces, but concentrate them in one area (fireplace) only. I could not be doing with the absolute starkness of true minimalism, but that is what individual style is all about - what suits you and what feels right. So don't worry about what you need for a look - have what you want for a feel of home.

I am really into the less-is-more feel of my front room, it is so much easier to tidy and clean, and is very restful - I am hoping to replicate the feel in the bedroom when I can afford (and can be bothered) to do that.

And I have been a hopeless devotee of magnolia forever - you can put anything with it! Have developed a strange liking for beigey neutral tones over last few years though :o
"It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

Overlord for the Axis of Evil (part time) :D
