Downloaded onrecord to my phone but it only records for 10 minutes, I wanted to record for hours. I also dont know how to tramnsfer these files to another place.
I also downloaded another recording app called voice recorder. It records for hours which is great. I guess I would need to transfer the audio file to SD card then put that on an external HDD as backup?
My old phone had a really important recording on it but my old Sony phone just suddenly broke nothing wouldnt turn on or anything. The SD card inside also seems to have broken. Is it possible to retrieve the file from either the SD card or the broken phone?

Depends whether the recording on the Sony was on the phone or the SD card. If it was on the card you may be able to take it out, connect to a computer and try data recovery on it. If it was on the phone you may be out of luck.
With regards to voice recorder, you will eventually need to copy the file off because you otherwise you will run out of spaceYou can usually connect the phone to a computer, change the connection method (via pulling down) and it then shows up in (My) Computer.

SD Card broken in which way?
You can perhaps retrieve the file using qphotorec if the SD card is not physically 'broken', if it is in one of these formats; https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/File_Formats_Recovered_By_PhotoRec

Of course you will need to use an independent card reader.0
