  • I agree not telling them does make more sense that includes opening a childs ISA as they will have full control over the account at 18. You never know how mature they will be at 18.

    Open an ISA in your name and plan to give the money to them at 18 as long as they are not going to waste it. Whilst it is technically their money to waste as they wish its often the case that young adults do not know the value of money until they become fully indpendent, these days this is often well into their twenties.

    We had "put away" money for both our children that they were not made aware of until they left home, but both had their own savings accounts as well where smaller gifts, birthday money and later pocket money allowance went so they could begin to learn to plan what they spent
