HSBC's expired switch deal and when can I switch away?

I hate HSBC, I had a terrible time switching to them. I haven't received my switch bonus but I want to switch away from them as soon as I do. Can anyone please help me in identifying how long I need to wait before switching - i.e. can they claim the money back off me? I can't find the T&Cs anywhere!

The switching incentive T&Cs currently on their website will answer your question, even though they may not relate to your actual switching offer.

For any future switching offers, always retain a copy for future reference.
  • The switch incentive is paid into your HSBC account.

So if you switch away you certainly won’t get the switch bonus.

We tried to switch our joint account to Natwest to benefit from the free cash incentive. They made us jump through hoops trying to provide ID (which we did three times via links they sent but did not work). They were clueless as to their own systems and in the end we just gave up. So we then tried to change again to HSBC a couple of weeks ago to get the £175 free cash incentive. They managed to write to us (two weeks after the application was submitted/deadline for the deal) and when we rang the number on the letter as advised, they couldn't find any record of us. We were told to go into a branch and the offer (now expired) would be honoured. Our nearest branch is 30 miles away. Faceless, call centre, no interest in customer service wastes of space. Sorry Martin - the money just ain't worth the hassle and not convinced we would receive any acceptable level of service had we actually managed to open the accounts.

OP intends to switch away after receiving incentive
  • I've been trying to switch to HSBC and receive the £175 offer but despite showing clear salary verification I'm getting nowhere. I was told by an HSBC employee that MSE has been dishing out false information. I've now formally complained to HSBC.

I am not exactly clear what you are asking but if you are asking can they take away the switch bonus once they have paid it to you the answer is no - even if you then switch away from them the next day

How far have you actually got?
Are you having difficulty opening the account?
Have you opened it OK but are now struggling to arrange the switch?
Has the switch gone through but you haven't received the expected bonus?

Exactly what is/was the discrepancy referred to?

    On what grounds specifically?

    I've just received the £50 incentive from HSBC's 150+50 after a year.
    I can switch away today.

Snap, had my £50 too, now just waiting until after payday when some money moves around to make it easier - where next? who is offering the best deal??

NB you can move as soon as you get bonuses, we just waited the 12m and paid in whatever it was they wanted (£1,750 rings a bell) to get the extra £50.

    EDIT :- just found the link at the top of this page to the other offers for switching;

First Direct - nope, already there
HSBC - nope, this one done
M&S - Nope done it in the past and their T&C's say you can NEVER have another reward for switching, LOL
    Nat West/RBS - £150 OK that'll do, haha!
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)
    Quidco and Topcashback, £4,569
    Shopandscan, £2,840
    Tesco Double The Difference, £2,700
    Thomson EU261/04 Claim, £1,700
    British Airways EU261/04 Claim, EUR1200

This is exactly what I needed to know. I received the switch bonus today, will look at switching elsewhere soon. Thank you so much
