Twisted Seatbelt

Hi all

I've got a 6 month old Seat Arona. It seems that the driver seatbelt has become twisted (even when it's retracted, the seatbelt isn't straight). I've spoken to Seat and they say this would be an out-of-warranty repair due to "user error". The cost is roughly £70 for labour, and of course no guarantee it wouldn't happen again. They say the cost is due to it not being a "manufacturing error".

Surely the belt becoming twisted after 6 months can't be put on the buyer with no warranty coverage?

I wouldn't be too bothered, but I've been told a twisted seatbelt can end-up in a cracked rib during a serious accident.

Many thanks

  • Can you not untwist it, folding and feeding it through the seatbelt holder in the car frame? Should only take a few minutes to do.

by twisted you mean the buckle is facing the wrong way?
  • It's not the buckle that's twisted. It's the belt itself. It seems the twist must be inside the retractor, but when I pull out the belt fully, there isn't anything obvious.

I drive a 16 seat minibus, changing buses every few months. The buses often have twisted seat belts, its just a matter of untwisting.
If you live near Leeds, I will do it for £30 :D

The only way a belt can become fully twisted is if somebody unbolts one end, turns it 180deg or 360deg, and bolts it back on again.

Apart from that, the ONLY thing that can possibly have happened is if the buckle has got twisted on the belt, and that partial twist has then gone back inside the trim. And that is 100% user error.
