There is no statutory requirement to provide a guarantee. I assume you are getting confused with what the Consumer Rights Act actually gives you.

Do the instructions state that distilled or deminerialised water should be used when filling the iron? and if so, did you do this?

If you are in an area that has fairly hard water then it might not take long for the deposits to block up the steam jets leading to the problem that you now have.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, I've decided to move on, the item was under £40.00, not worth pursuing unless on a matter of principle.
