Switching Energy Supplier for new house
Hi All
We are currently going through conveyancing process and are due to complete on 30th Sept. Our current supplier for new house is NPower and our experience with them in the past has not been great. So we definitely want to switch to a different supplier.
When will be the right time to put a request for switching suppliers considering we wont be an customer for Npower in our new house from day one.
Thanks

On the 30th. Once you've got the keys for your house and are officially the owners, go into the house and take meter readings (also take photos if possible).
Contact NPower with your details saying you are new tenants as of the 30th and give them the meter readings. You don't have any choice, you have to at least be a temporary customer of NPower by registering with them first and then switching.
Go to a comparison site and if its a similar sized house put in your annual usage figures from the previous year, or use the average usage figures for the size of house (or OFGEM's typical domestic consumption).
Choose your new supplier and initiate a switch, so all you end up with from NPower is a final bill for a few weeks supply until it switches to your new provider.0 -
Thanks, thats very helpful.0

You will be!
Even if you were to attempt to switch supplier today (you can't), a switch would not complete before 30th September.
Switches generally take about 17 days to complete, and as mentioned above, you shouldn't even start util it is your house and you have registered with the existing supplier.
So you can't even attempt to bribe the existing home owner to switch supplier for you in advance of completion, now.
Time to swallow your pride, and look forward to joining the other 6,500,000 customers who seem ok to be supplied by nPower.
