    But that is not the dilemma here. There is enough money (apparently) to pay for that and more in the way of a funeral from an insurance policy. The moral question is whether it is right to do more than the absolute minimum necessary when it means that the deceased's creditors will go unpaid.


    I guess it depends on your definition of necessary.
    Personally I think dignity, religious wishes, closure for close relatives and friends are necessary (as long as they are not extravagant).
    The problem with morality is that it is subjective.


    Commercial creditors cater for this in their business model.

    £3K isn't an excessive amount to pay for a funeral. It probably won't even cover a very modest funeral plus a headstone.
