Been asked by teenager what/which to buy so would value your opinions.
I suggested, for best value, ergonomics, versatility, upgrace ability etc. a tower pc, keyboard and monitor combination as primarily for school work, browsing, emails (and the like) and the usual teen gaming.....provided portability is not going to be an issue. Refurbished recent machine with ssd and ability to have external drive for backup. Would probably go for a dell with older i5 cpu as that would be plenty fast enough.....no problem selecting one of those!
To my mind that is the best home option (already has a notebook!) However depending on what is required at school it might be a laptop that is needed and that was teen first and only thought!!
I'm not familiar with best buys for laptops for same use (some conflicting advice on here over the years!!). Would hope for 15" screen, near full size keyboard. ......but budget £300 !!!!! Would seem a tall order to me. Many a reasonable laptop ok for basics, even though not lightening speed, but will become a bit more tedious as graphics and apps etc get more complex as they do over time. Huge storage probably not needed.
Very tall order in my opinion especially when Minecraft was mentioned! Work machine vs toy IMHO :rotfl::eek:
Needs to be win 10 ( how I dislike pre-installed but can cope with that, I suppose
)
Mention of second hand/refurbished did not go down too well !! Modern kids eh?
Any ideas?

I don't recommend anything less than Ryzen3.
However, I do suggest you spend extra for Ryzen 50 -
Thanks Cisco. That's useful.:T0

I purchased a refurbished laptop from the Argos eBay site and aside from the plain box it looked like it had never been used. I think it is the luck of the draw with whether you get unused or refurbished but they are worth a look.
