Amazon Fire HD Kids editions

Options
I'm thinking of getting a tablet for my 6 year old niece and was wondering whether the Amazon Fire HD Kids editions were worth it over a standard android tablet, and in particular whether it's worth spending the premium over the standard Amazon Fire HD tablets. Bear in mind that I might actually wait a couple of months until Amazon's Black Friday event when it'll no doubt be heavily discounted.

All the Amazon fire tablets are locked down to apps from the Amazon Store only, so if you're used to the way an Android mobile phone works, don't be surprised to not see the Play Store, even though the Fire Tablets are effectively Android in new clothes. One can apparently sideload the Play Store though...

Ours just died after 19 months. The replacement is on its way, no questions asked.
It is certainly worth it for the 2 year no quibble guarantee.

Very easily. Or indeed export an apk from an android device and load it on the fire.

I have no experience with the kids models. I do like the normal onews though.

I belive the differnet with the kids ones is they come with xtra protection and they will swap them out in a claim with less "proof". But I really have no idea, so best find corroboration!

We just had one break at the charger port, so wasn't always charging. Just under the 2 year guarantee given at the time. They gave us a no quibble exchange, no proof needed and told us that the kid proof guarantee no longer has a limit on it....Even returning the old one was free....So win all round and would recommend it.

In general, I've not been a fan of Amazon, but, may be coming round to buying more off them.....

I just noticed that the 7" version has been reduced to £49 at Currys so will be getting one of those tomorrow. Not too bothered that it's locked into the Amazon infrastructure and I'm sure my 6 year old niece wont be either ;)
