Lease company saying I have to use their main dealership for 'A Service'

Hi guys, hopefully you can help. Lease company trying to push me to use main dealership (double/treble the cost of others)

New lease car, due first 'Service A' at 10k.

-Contract says "The vehicle must be maintained in accordance with Mercedes Benz published service intervals within the Official Workshop network".

-Mercedes online chat said "As long as genuine Mercedes parts are used, you're ok".

-Google said "Block Exemptions Regulations 2003 means they can't force you to use main dealer" link here.

-Lease company won't answer any direct questions, just keep repeating "You have to get it done at main dealership".

Where do I legally stand with this please?

You accepted these terms when you signed it, or took delivery of the car if you somehow didn't.

It is their car not yours, they get to say where it is serviced surely...
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

The Lease company have answered the question.

One of the downsides of leasing.....most want it serviced at a dealership.

As mentioned, you seem to be under the impression that the car belongs to you. It doesn't, and as such it's for the lease company to decide where the car is serviced.

The manufacturer warranty cannot stipulate main-dealer servicing, only that the work is done to the same standard and with parts of the same quality.

The owner of the car, however, can stipulate whatever they like.
  • As above, it’s not your car so you need to do as they ask.

And if you don't prepare for hefty charges at the end of your agreement.
  • Some leasing companies also do this for repairs as well if you have an accident, they insist you use an "approved garage".

It maybe worth shopping around different dealers if you have a few MB nearby, assuming that they belong to different holding groups.

On my first service for my leased A6, i was quoted £450 from the supplying dealer. Dundee Audi quoted £300. Yes, still expensive compared to a non franchise, but as dealers go, dont think thats too bad.

My 2nd service, with DSG oil change is £500 - again, not too bad in the scheme of things.

You could consider getting just the routine servicing done at MB and any wear and tear items like brakes, done at a non-franchised - as long as they use genuine parts, there is no way they could realistically know that you have done so - but doubt they would care on that element as long as genuine parts were used.
  • Amusing that the answers on here exactly reflect the answers on the MB forum where you asked the same question!
  • You would need to use the official dealership for services if your contract states this.
I have leased for 10+ years and never actually seen a contract which states this.

I only ever serviced one of my car and it was a Mercedes. 2 weeks before the hand in date, the brake pad lights came on too. A simple unplug of the sensors did the job and I handed it back without them knowing.
