British gas Homecare

Options
Can anyone give me any advice regarding British gas Homecare?

Our boiler started making a whistling noise a few weeks ago so we called them out. An engineer came and said it was sludge and put in something to get rid of the sludge. A few days later it was still the same so another engineer was sent out. He said it needed a new part so he came back today with the part. Prior to him coming we had hot water & heating it was just the high pitched noise. While changing the part he told me the PCB got wet, and after 3 hours of him messing about it still wasn't working and fault lights were flashing. He obviously had got ****ed off by now as it was 4pm on a Friday and prob wanted to get to the pub. He then told me that the PCB would dry itself out and would work again in about an hour. He then left knowing we had no heating or hot water. And hour after he'd gone we noticed water was dripping from beneath the boiler and it still wasn't working. I phoned homecare at 5.15pm and informed them it was dripping and fault lights were flashing only to be told they couldn't get anyone out until tomorrow even though it was their engineers fault that the boiler wasn't working. Surely that engineer shouldn't have left my house knowing that we had 2 young children in the house and no water or heating. I filmed on my mobile the initial problem (easier to show the engineer than try and explain the noise) and have since filmed it how he left it - flashing lights and dripping all over the top of my dishwasher.
Is there anything I can do regarding this? I can't even go and have a shower after being at work all day, nor can I go out this evening because I can't have a shower. Plus I now have to stay in again tomorrow and wait for another engineer.
Thanks

Hi, how old are the children, if they are under 3 (i think), then BG have a responsibility to make sure that you have some form of heating. They are afterall supposed to be a 24 hour breakdown callout.

Do you have any other heaters you could use till tomorrow?

I had problems with them a few weeks back, they should have come out on say Thurs pm - did not arrive at 6pm phoned them and they said there was nothing they could do until the following day The original call had not been logged!!!!!! I at the time had no heating or hot water. I am seriously losing faith in their homecare agreements - don't think they are bothered about their customers too much.

Hope you manage to get yours sorted out. Once sorted I would definitely be putting a complaint in. That is totally out of order, the engineer was obviously incompetent and left a job unfinished. They (BG)state that they are a 24hr breakdown - but I have never found this to be the case - it is usually within 48 hours if you are lucky.

Know this is probably not much consolation for you just wanted to let you know that someone else knows how you feel and send you big hugs.
  • Hi our kids are 7 & 10.

What got to me is the fact that b4 the engineer came we had hot water & heating but now we don't  .

And the cheeky mare (who was a manager BTW) at BG homcare when I rang got the hump when I said I wasn't happy about having to wait and put the phone down on me!!

Might take the engineer hostage tomorrow and hold him for ransom LOL.
  • Surprise, surprise we had another engineer visit yesterday,he messed about for 2 hours stopped the leak but could not get the boiler going,so issued a green notice at risk situation. So in my eyes BG Homecare has come to do a repair and completley knackered my boiler which is only just coming up for 3 year old.We have had no heating or hot water now since Friday,I had to go out yesterday and buy 3 electric heaters at a cost of £90,have to boil kettles for washing but all this use of electricity is costing as we are on a card meter £10 gone in 2 days.Does anyone have any info on claiming the money back from BG as I am incapacitated with 2 kids and have had to use the xmas funds to pay for heaters and electric, which if BG had not broke my boiler I would not of had this outlay.
