Returned Item Missing

Hi all,
Google are running a free trial on Chromebooks. I did the trial, and decided to return.
They stipulated that the return must be with the Parcelforce 48 return label they provide.
I therefore went to the post office, returned the Chromebook and collected proof of postage.
Fast forward a week and the item location is sadly unknown. Parcelforce think it could be at the depot or still in the Post Office.
Sadly, Google are stating they are not responsible or liable for loss in transit, but, Parcelforce are not too keen dealing with me since the 'Sender' details are all in Google's name! They also state a claim for compensation must come from Google but no insurance was added.
Is this really a case of 'I've lost £500.00?!'. I did everything they asked!
Cheers
