Order of jobs and who does what!

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate some advice....I am going to be wanting some work done on my house in the next few weeks, but having never had this done before(first house) I'm a bit confused about the order in which jobs done and whether or not I need to get different trades people in!!

I will be wanting the following doing:

1. Walls re-plastering (just skimmed but some parts look a bit dodgy) and ceilings takn down and boaded (then skimmed)
2. New skirting boards
3. New door frames and doors
4. Possibly a new window frame and new double glazed window
5. Radiators replaced with new ones
6. Cavity wall on aprty wall (sound proofing!)
7. Fireplace stripping out (gas) and new flat panel one installing

As you can see it's quite a bit of work, and to be honest I feel overwhelmed by it all! Will I have to organise several people to come in and do the work and what order do I need to do them in, especially in terms of the plastering work?

Cheers.

    Hi

The first job to do is get the dirty work done first so removing fireplace is 1st,and first fix joinery ie door case in this has to be done prior to plastering as you can then plaster up to the frame same with the fireplace. Then your window.

The sound profing next, then your plastering this needs to be left for at least a few days to dry out prior to any second fix skriting boards etc, and as such the radiators on last.

    hope this makes sense

Hiya firstly who is doing the work, yourselvs or tradsmen,
if tradesmen, you have seen all the programs so take heed,
price is not the most important thing, a decent honest tradesman will oversee all your work, the work he carnt do he will know some one who can,
as i am a tradesman i have been to many jobs where people do not check up on previous work done, i ask people why not ,there not bothered its just the price, but unscrupilous builders go in cheap and you find they start adding extras not priced for but should of been,
i dont want to put u off, but please get reccomended tradesmen, smile alot,
plenty of tea, bacon buttys are nice, appreciate what he does , we all need a little praise now and again, and dont fall out. i hope this helps?

i couldnt agree more with the above.

when your getting quotes dont always go for the cheapest go with who you feel is right for the job, and get references. if the tradsmen are of a decent standard they will not mind you asking them for references from previous customers.
