According to my partner Home Ownership is not yet allowed under UC but don't shoot the messenger i am just trying to help.
They are wrong. There are many homeowners who receive Universal Credit. No one is shooting the messenger - just correcting the message.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Your partner is incorrect.

The reason i thought i knew about this is because the huge majority of JSA claimants at Jobcentreplus seem have been deemed ineligible for UC, my partner said they might eventually need to consider allowing these to migrate over to UC but at this they are unable to do it.
I will ask them when they arrive back from work in an hour or so!

Go ahead and ask, it will make no difference because they are wrong. Most DWP advisers read from a screen, which is why asking DWP for advice is never usually the best idea.

I'm sorry i don't think you are correct on this, my partner will confirm later but i have yet to hear of a home owner on UC, many are still on JSA and there must be a reason for that but maybe it has yet to be introduced in my area.

UC has been introduced across the whole of the UK. Of course many homeowners may still be on JSA if they were previously claiming it. They have not yet been transferred to UC, that will happen in the future. However if they were not claiming already and wished to make a new claim for an income based benefit they would have to claim UC. They cannot make a new claim for income based JSA. If they wish to claim a contribution based benefit they can claim new style JSA - but, as with the old contribution based JSA, this is only payable for 6 months.

Someone used to post on here that claims UC and is a homeowner but i forget their name now.

Anyway i'm sorry but your partner is definitely incorrect.

I agree, it has been introduced across the UK but JSA still exists and their is a reason that it is not yet fazed out, the reason is simple, not everybody can be switched over to UC!

There have been lots of threads concerning Universal Credit from people who are homeowners.

Eventually everybody will be switched to UC. The process started in July with a pilot project in Harrogate. The complete transfer is scheduled to complete by the end of 2023 (but may, of course, be delayed). The fact that people generally are not yet being switched doesn’t mean that new claims for UC cannot be made.
