am i right to be worried? near completion

So we have passed all of the searches and enquiries stage and we have discussed a completion date with the house we are buying, however our buyers on our property haven't been back in touch to confirm this date, they are cash buyers and are going to be using our house as a rental so aren't moving any items in and we have mentioned to them about completing on the 4th October. I can't see any other issue with why they wouldn't be responding to this.
I've emailed the solicitor several times but he isn't responding to me which is causing me to panic a little and what with the vendors chasing me up for confirmation of this date so they can book removals in!

Is this too good to be true to get everything completed by this date?
Why can't solicitors just keep you updated!

Completion date won't be agreed until exchange of contracts is effected. Sounds far too early to be booking removal companies. At this point in time the date being discussed is simply a wish.

Solicitors will update you with facts when they are known. Not idle speculation.
  • Thanks, its just that because all other parties in the chain have discussed this date for completion, it seems odd why they haven't agreed it too, especially seeing as though they aren't going to be living at the property? I think the way our solicitor works is he gets a completion date sorted and then he arranges signing and exchanging contracts ready for this date.

I think my mind is playing tricks and i'm imagining they've ran in to a problem. You always seem to think the worst.
  • Has the EA been trying to ring them? Make sure they're on the case and you're not just trying to contact them via solicitors - it'll be much more efficient through the EA.
  • Thanks, we are all using the same estate agent but he is quite a character and so far upset 2 out of 3 of us in the chain so trying to hold out from contacting him.
But i think i may have to just bite the bullet and contact him if i haven't heard by tomorrow.

Perhaps they just need to get a few more ducks in a row to have the money available? Even if it's not from a mortgage, investments sometimes need time to turn into cash.

But until you exchange, completion dates are just up to agreement between you all.
  • Thanks, Yes i guess youre right AdrianC, it would just be nice for the solicitor to communicate, even if it's just to let me know we are still waiting!

Your solicitor has plenty of things to do for other clients than to constantly say "No news, still waiting for them"...
  • I assume you mean your own solicitors and not your buyers? If you did mean your buyers then you shouldn't be contacting them.
Is the vendor chasing you directly? If so that isn't on as they should be going through either the EA or their solicitor to your solicitor.
Officially in a clique of idiots
