Buying a car, dealer wants a card processing fee?

For the OP, putting the legal ramifications to one side (he could always argue he thought you were a business buying the car, therefore for a corporate card he is allowed to continue to charge for that payment method), it might be worthwhile asking the dealer how much he would charge if a nominal sum was paid by card, with the rest being by bank transfer. For a large value transaction I would be keen to have the additional backup of Section 75 (and the entire purchase amount doesn't have to be via the card to trigger S75).0

^^^precisely this.
Even just £10 on the CC is enough to provider S75 protection, as what matters is the purchase price not the amount paid on CC.0
