O/S Daily Monday 16th September 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Welcome to Sophie - hope mum and baby doing well x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS2 still in his pit, he has a week's holiday, and DS2 settled and ok. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here.

Wet underfoot and raining at the moment but forecast is for it to clear later.

Lunch yesterday was a lovely joint of roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy, washed down with a nice chilled white wine. Outlaws came for lunch as DH invited them - she's not the easiest to get on with and she offended me. She's very very houseproud and completely and absolutely obsessed with money - both things that I'm not obsessed with, she has a nasty vindictive streak also - there's loads of incidents that have happened over the years but I just get on with it, but on occasion give her a bit back. She was just a bit off, so once I'd fed them and they'd had a while chatting after eating lunch and drinking our wine, I got DS1 to take them home. She won't offer to help and you can see her sat, eyes scanning the room and yesterday she just pushed my buttons - even DH noticed she was a bit off - and he doesn't usually notice. They ate a decent sized plate of roast each and didn't leave anything. If my food is not up to scratch I'm the first to put my hand up and admit it isn't right/good enough. I know my food was good yesterday. She also poked at my stomach and said you put a bit back on? I just said "yeah" a bit but nothing that worries me too much, this is coming from a woman that's fat and very overweight - but she didn't do it in front of anyone else - this is her vindictive side. Normally I just rise above it but I'd spent the whole morning making sure everything would be nice for them, I always pay more attention when I cook for guests too, so it's as nice as it can be, and we didn't even get a thanks for a nice meal on their way out. Won't be inviting them again for as long as is possible.

Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant!

Back to work today, hoping it'll be quite busy so it makes the day pass quicker.

Dinner tonight will be fish, chips, jacket potatoes, beans/veg.

Keep safe and well x

    Thanks for the start nmlc.

Back to normality this morning, a swim and work. Must do some sorting in the garden when I get home, the deck is progressing but there's a load of rubble where the steps were taken down, the chaps have cleared some but not fast enough!

DS1 came over yesterday and we went for cuddles with the baby, he's a very proud Uncle. When we came back here he put up the new washing line, I even put some washing on it for an hour!

Good to hear from you Nelski, Holly and tru, glad you're back!

Enjoy your holidays RR and Jackie O, can't wait to hear all about it.

    Happy Monday, take care. XX

Hello Nels and Holly :hello: :D

I took Scamp up the hill yesterday, he was having one of his shy days, so every dog he saw was deemed to be scary. He'll watch for a few seconds then pick up his ball and trot away about 30ft, pretend to be very interested in a blade of grass while watching other dog out of the corner of his eye. When other dog is out of sight, he carries on as normal, lol. Until a man came along with four dogs – mum, dad and two puppies – and he thought this was the most amazing thing ever :D He was quite taken with the puppies (so was I!) but wasn't quite sure what to do with them so he was very gentle. When we parted ways, I walked away feeling very proud of him and I told him so :D

I love this weather, this is my favourite time of year. I have loads of energy and any jobs that I've planned to do (for months, sometimes!) get done. I'm working on my garden list at the moment, I'll do a few small things but most will be done next month. I have three cactus plants that are desperate for bigger pots, I'll have a root around in the shed and hope I can find the right size. I'm going to put them on the hall windowsill to block the view a bit, Scamp has taken to barking at people walking past again and I refuse to go back to keeping the blind closed all day :D

I'll do my usual monday clean-up this morning then get a bit of work done this afternoon. I'm hoping to be done by about 3pm, I fancy watching a film later.

    Morning all

Seems a lot cooler here today im sat here with a blanket over my knees, the pup is wrapped up too.

Off to work for my last day before our break, and tomorrow I have the day off to go and be waxed and nails done, I am also having a sports massage on my foot which seems to have helped immensely.

Most of the packing was done yesterday just the last few bits to go in early Wednesday morning.

Filled pasta for dinner tonight with salad and garlic bread the fridge is almost bare now.

Need to have a sweep round tonight and get the garden bits put away in the shed.

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning, and thanks NMLC. Its fine but a bit chilly here.

Hello Nelski, long time no see!!

Redruby, it's a lovely feeling, getting ready for a much needed holiday.

Sorry to hear you were upset by an in law NMLC, I think we would all identify with you in this situation.. Sadly you can't pick your in laws. It leaves you with a nasty feeling though, especially as you've put yourself out for them.

Hope Mum and baby are progressing well Camelot.

Didn't do much yesterday, it was grey and cold, I'm glad we went out on Saturday, it was the better day.
We'll collect Dgd from school today, and she'll come for tea as usual. Well, I haven't checked with DD but that's what usually happens on Mondays. I'll text Dd after she's taken Dgd to school, I know this time of the morning is busy for them.

I'm visiting a friend this morning, then there's a bit of shopping to do, and I'll take some books back to the library while I'm out. Might get some washing out as well.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.
    Take care folks xx

Good morning everyone. Cooler here too.

Yesterday was fairly uneventful apart from DM's crossword buddy. Once I've set out the tea things I let them get on with it all. He makes the tea when they want it.

The District Nurse is coming early door to take bloods from DM for digoxin levels. And that's the only thing in the diary.

Another Scamps tale to make me smile, thanks tru.

Now I wish everyone a very happy Monday.

A quick post from me as I’m running late! The one morning I sleep through for a change is the one where I need to be up.

I’m going with my elderly neighbour to her hospital appointment this morning and the taxi will be here soon. When we have finished there she wants to go into town to the bank. Sadly she can’t get out without someone now. I’ll take her for a coffee and cake after we have done that.

I’m not sure what time we will be back so haven’t made any other plans for today.

I hope that you all have a good day xx

    Hi everyone

I have just realised it has been ages since I posted on here. Middle dd has set her wedding date for December this year and we went to look for her wedding dress on Saturday having found a bridal factory in Northallerton. It was based in an industrial estate which did not seem promising but when we went inside it was very nicely decorated and set out with about 800 dresses to look at. There was one to one service but not pushy in any way and dd tried on about six dresses which all looked good but two of them were stunning. The one she went for was a designer sample with a lovely button back detail and small train that could be pinned up and still look good . We were able to take the dress away (and the veil) and saved over £700 for something that we all love so very pleased. We also have details of the alteration people they suggested so any small adjustments can be done a bit nearer the time.

I had flooring put down in the integral garage and older dd helped me move a lot of boxes etc out of the way a couple of weeks ago but they were then in my bedroom and conservatory and looked awful. I had an accident on the two steps when they were replaced but slid under me and went flying so was not able to do much over the last week as my legs were grazed , bruised and swollen. Middle and youngest dds were adamant I could not have boxes all over the house so set to and the stuff is now all in the integral garage and on shelves which is such a relief. I did get reproved gently as I have more stuff than I realised which was a bit embarrassing. Everything will get used eventually and they were not amused when I pointed out toilet rolls should be good for barter should TSHTF. They did concede that if there were any shortages due to bad weather, fuel problems or B***t then they would apologise.

Just about to have a tea and toast and get the bus to York for a pneumonia jab and the gp flu jab is in early October so will go for that. I had heard that the flu in Australia was very bad so determined to get my flu jab. Older dd who has friends and contacts in the health service is going to get her flu jabs and her husband's done at Boots while other DDs are less concerned at the moment.

Happy Monday to all and hugs.

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Nmlc, my ex mil was like that, I'm so sorry yours is such a poisonous cow.

Overcast and drizzly here, milder than it has been in the mornings. Yesterday I made an apple and blackberry tray bake and finished the first set of reusable face wipes, crocheted in drops cotton.

Child care this afternoon, more crochet today once I've cleaned the bathroom.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a dull and grey morning here, very Mondayish. Steve and Phoebe have left for work and Lee is off to college in a minute. Lilly is still fast asleep and my grandson has just burst through the door to wait until school starts.

I will be making creamy garlic chicken for dinner tonight with some brown rice and green beans. We had lasagne yesterday with a few chips and garlic bread....carbolicious :).

I have to wash a couple of loads of towels as we are running out. It annoys me a bit that the kids just fill up and then walk past the towel bin without thinking " Oh that's full, better put a wash on", but then it would be a bit of a miracle as they don't bother to change the empty loo roll either, or even worse, just leave the roll with one sheet on . Anyway, that's my moan of the day :D.

nmlc, I am sorry that you were so unappreciated by your MIL, she sounds quite toxic and I don't blame you for not wanting to have her over again. Your meals always sound so delicious and I am sure your family love them. Try not to take it to heart although it is easier said than done xx

Holly, enjoy your time with your neighbour and the coffee and cake xx

tru, Scampi did so well with the puppies didn't he, is he always gentle with pups or was this a new thing? xx

We watched the film Stan and Ollie on Prime last night. It was a very nice film and the casting was superb. Steve grew up watching an awful lot of their films as his parents are deaf and the slapstick humour very much appealed to them. It brought back some happy memories for him which was lovely.

Right, I must go and empty the bin and sort out the towels so I will love you and leave you. Have a great day xx

NMLC, when I was newly married the in-laws were coming for visit so I cleaned the house as well as I could. The first thing she did on arrival was start to polish the kitchen taps! Having said that we did have a good relationship for the most part and she wasn't a particularly difficult person.

Elona, ouch I hope you feel better. Redruby I hope you have a lovely holiday.

Things are very quiet here we're just chugging along. We might go to MK to see if we can find curtains for the Yorkshire house and maybe some fabric for the dining chair pads. We'll see.
