  • You're serious aren't you?

It's a car .. not your best friend. Move on.

My cars are my best friends; at least they don't let me down as much!

I was once workshop manager of a business which imported, sold, repaired and maintained Classic Cars, whilst also maintaining, repairing and testing modern makes. caprikid is right about the feelings owners have about their Classics, even after the car has moved to another owner. Those who don't run or even have an interest in Classics, will never understand that. I'm probably as biased as any Classic owner and ex-owner, especially caprikid, because I have owned seven Ford Capri's and I would love to know where each one is now, especially the RS 3.1 I had in 70's Germany.

My interest in Classics has never waned, although I could not run one today, in fact yesterday I was at a large Classics show on Skegness airfield. Whenever I see a model that may be one of the hundreds that I might have worked upon, I make a beeline for the owner and a good conversation ensues. There were three such cars there yesterday and I came away having made new friends: it happens all the time. In one case I was able to help an E Type owner fix a steering fault.

The GDPR information may not change anything, but please do not knock someone else's consuming passion, just because you do not possess a passion for their interests. That has not changed. And who knows, maybe you have an interest or hobby that others are baffled by. If you don't have an interest or hobby, I feel sympathy for you.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

I bought back an old car once. I didn't need it, but it was for sale stupidly cheap because of it's star-ship mileage, most of which I'd put on it. It was great to see the old girl again!

My brother-in-law would love to know where his first car, an old mini, is now, and would buy it back given the chance, but because of GDPR it's unlikely he'll ever find it. It's not had an MOT in years but not declared scrap, so is probably rusting away somewhere!

My firsr car (1977 Austin Allegro) was showing as on the road unt recently and I did wonder where it was. It was interesting to see the MOT status and check what it had failed on in the last few years.

Interestingly, there are 23 more Allegros of my model licensed and on the road today than there were in 2008!!

Set yourself up as a parking enforcement company - the DVLA have no problem giving out owners names/addresses to them!
  • I can remember my first car (1967 Mini 850 in old English white) but I'm bug*ered if I can remember my first girlfriend :)

If I dreamed about the cars I drove 40 years ago they'd mostly be nightmares;).

Who would have guessed, it's not like you've mentioned it several times before.

GDPR has meant that the details of any previous owner are no longer shown on the V5 now.

My current car V5 shows the name and address of the previous keeper but due to GDPR they no longer do this so you can't even trace the last keeper any more.

I did not know this, thanks.
