Voluntary Termination Charges

Good morning,

Looking for some advice after a voluntary termination on a car finance agreement.

2.5 years ago i found myself needing a car and with poor credit ended up going to car finance 24/7 who arranged finance for me with a company who are now known as moneway (previously v12 retail finance i think).

Anyway, when i bought the car it was very low mileage but mechanically in outstanding condition and the paintwork was solid and clean, only downside was the alloys were all badly scuffed. Car was priced accordingly and with the low mileage the alloys did not bother me as the car was to be a "get from A to B car".

Fast forward two and a half years and i am taking advantage of the half way point voluntary termination. So moneyway send out a representative to assess and collect the vehicle.

Report stated all 4 alloys as "damaged" and quoted £45 a wheel to repair and lack of a spare key (which i didn't get when i bought it), vehicle is mechanically fine but there was some age related marks on the paint including a scuff on top of the rear bumper where i had loaded something badly in to the boot ( i accept this is my fault).

Anyway, overall costs total up to £680 but the bulk of the cost is from the 4 alloys, the missing spare key and an incomplete service history (£500).

I'm a competent home mechanic and always self service my vehicles. I included receipts for any repairs a garage had undertaken and any receipts for items i had bought and then replaced/serviced myself but apparently this was not acceptable and the vehicle should've been serviced through a VW retailer.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on this or how i go about getting the alloys, spare key and service history removed from the Vehicle inspection report since there was no terms imposed on me for what vehicle i should buy and what should come with said vehicle. Or am i stuck with having to pay for these repairs and missing spare key that i never got with the car since the garage selling it never had the spare one from the previous owner.

Worth noting the vehicle was already 7 years old when i bought it and well out it's manufacturers warranty. 9.5 years old when i was handing it back.

Thanks in advance

A home serviced car = no service history. Usually a car on finance stipulates it must be serviced at an approved garage, usually manufacturer dealership.

The other issues.....you should have noted the missing keys and took pictures of the alloys when you got it.
  • Do you have proof that wheels where badly kerbed and key was missing when you bought the car? If you don't, then finance company may think you did the damage and lost the key.

Lack of service is the most expensive thing. Your contract will define servicing requirements. You should have read it.
