return goods for refund

I went into machine mart shop on 31/8/19 and the guy ordered me a sealey trammel gauge these are online order only they have a computer for you to do it yourself in store the guy did it for me to be delivered to the shop and I would come back for it. it arrived on 4/9/19 and my father picked it up on 5/9/19 . when I opened it I found the item not good quality and when extended it still moves on its pins and it is described to be for precise measurements. I took it back to the shop on 7/9/19 and told them I would like my money refunded but they refused and put me in contact with customer services who also refused and said they would send it of to sealey to check but if they found nothing wrong I would be charged carrage. what are my options
