O/S Daily Saturday 14th September 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those who want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH watching catchup tv with first cuppa, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit, and DS2 settled and ok.

Light but cloudy and dry underfoot - air not so warm this morning.

Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips/jacket potato and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight we're having chinese but not takeaway - its all pre-made from SM, we thought we'd give it a try for something different. We have a joint of pork for tomorrow's lunch as FIL and MIL are coming for lunch.

Yesterday I was quite productive and got done what I wanted, ironing done, bed linen washed, line dried, folded and put away in the airing cupboard. I did seem to run around a bit but got done what was on my list. Working this morning and then back on Monday.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.

It seems fine out there, yesterday was a nice day, but a bit chilly.

We restored everything to its proper place yesterday after our carpet cleaning, it all looks quite nice. The living room carpet didn't come up as well as the other one, but it's better than it was

I wasn't out at all, just busy round the house. There always seems to be something to do. I sometimes wonder if we should have moved to a smaller place when the family left home, though DD came back for 4 years after her long term relationship ended. These old Victorian houses with plenty of room are great when you have a young family, and the energy to do it all, but now I wonder if we should have downsized.
A friend lives in a lovely little modern house, compact, but ideal for two of them. It's really nice.
Sorry folks, whinge over, I was just musing really.

Camelot must be a Grandma again now, hope everything has gone well.
My daughter was a fortnight late, as was her daughter, like Camelot's DD.

Gers, you are doing really well with sorting out Your DM's stuff, and generally looking after her. I know you miss your own home though.

I don't know what delights today holds, there is some shopping to do. and general "stuff". I want to go through my sewing boxes, and tidy my fabric cupboard. I've just been shoving bits and pieces in, now things are starting to fall out when you open the door.

We made more gin, damson this time. It's a lovely colour already. it's stored away in the landing cupboard along with the rhubarb gin.

Glad you've survived the dentist's AOD, hope you're feeling ok.

Enough of my waffling - hope everyone has as good a day as they can.

    Take care folks xx
  • Morning everyone

Another sunny warm day forecast for here, so I have got one load of bedding on the line and another in the washing machine. I decided to make the most of this weather while it lasts.

This morning I'm going to help out in the museum visitor centre for a couple of hours. I now wish I had learnt to speak some other languages when I was younger as it would be a bit help now.

I need to collect something I ordered from M&S when I finish and then will probably stop at a tea shop for a coffee and a bit of people watching :).

Thankfully I got the housework done yesterday so can make the most of this late summer weather.

Thinking of those who are looking after poorly people and struggling with life.

Camelot I hope all is well and that you are now a granny again.

Take care, and have a good day everyone. x
  • Morning All

It's a girl! Baby sophie arrived yesterday at 14.07, 8lb 3oz. It was all rather quick in the end and I'm so in love! I went to visit quickly last night, had crisps and champagne for tea with some friends!

Can't think of anything else to tell you right now, may be back later.

Have a happy Saturday. Take care. XX

Congratulations! I'm pleased that Sophie arrived safely (love the name by the way), she is a good weight. xx
  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

Beautiful sun here and I'm about to hang some bedding out, put the washer on an hour ago and it is nearly finished.

Scarletribbons I'm fine, thank you. Just the permanent crowns to be inserted now, I have temporary ones for now and although they feel a bit 'alien' they are quite comfortable. By the way, I think it was you who reminded me about evening primrose oil, over time that has made a big difference to the skin on my hands.

I cleaned yesterday, then did some gardening and cut the lawns, was rewarded by birds coming for grubs. So far this morning, I've seen a thrush, a robin, a bluetit, sparrows and Mr Portly the pigeon.

Today OH has offered to make me a fishcake and I have salad in the garden he will be doing the shopping soon and I may go out later although I could leave that until Monday, not sure.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Congratulations Camelot on your granddaughter's arrival!

I'm having a slow start – most days I've hung the washing out by now and have tidied the kitchen. Today all I've done is drunk coffee and let the chickens out. The washing is still in the laundry basket, there are bits on the kitchen floor and last nights washing up is still piled up on the drainer. I'm feeling very lazy :D

Mr tru's day off is friday, the shop is closed on sundays, he's taken today as holiday so he has a long weekend off. Trouble is, he won't sit still and keeps saying 'let's do this' 'let's go out, where shall we go?' and all I want to do is go for an amble with Scamp, crochet, read and enjoy my usual saturday afternoon of my favourite food while catching up with my recorded programs :D And I've been looking forward to watching The Predator, which has just started showing on Sky movies. I think he should get a girlfriend :D

He's out this morning though, him and his mates are going for a fry-up so he'll be gone for a couple of hours. I'm going to enjoy a walk (calm and relaxed please, Scamp!) then pamper my feet a bit, they're very sore and need some TLC.

Good morning all, and welcome to the world Sophie. Congratulations to MissC and her BF. More grandweans for Camelot.

I'm showered, sitting wrapped in a towel so hoping to drip dry. Once I'm sorted it's off to the shops and the tip. There's also another bag of clothes to go to a CS. More lovely frocks from the 50s and 60s. There's also the most fabulous 60s Jaeger woollen suit which I can't bear to send to a CS, it'll go to a friend of a friend who is a seamstress with the hope she can alter it enough to wear.

Tru - make the most of your window of peace!

SR - I agree. The joys of a large old house begin to lose their glow once age creeps in. A modern house can bring such comfort.

Right...time to move. Thoughts go out to all those struggling, a very happy Saturday to everyone.

    Hurray, welcome Sophie. Congratulations Camelot.

It was lovely spending the day with Laura yesterday. I didn't manage to get too much done on her kitchen cupboards but made a little progress. We had a lovely walk with Ziggy and she needled my ear - ouch. It was ok actually and I fell asleep with them in.

We've got Chris and Crystal arriving later with their cat. We are driving them to the airport and cat sitting for them while they are away in Rhodes. That reminds me I must write their anniversary card and give it to them to open while they are away. Laura and Brian's is the following week.

Congratulations Camelot and family. Wishing baby Sophie a long and happy, healthy life.

My house troll has gone to Saturday school - he and his mates were lured in by the promise of a free breakfast. He's had his own breakfast at home as well in case the school one is only toast :rotfl: I'm in work in a couple of hours so a few house jobs to do first.

Take care all of you :)
