I have lived here for 30+ years and I am now on my 3rd decking patio.
If you water pot plants, the decking and supporting structure will rot.
With Millboard, it is important to use the plastic supports and joists that cannot rot. Mine is 'Driftwood'
  • Not sure about the company linked to but many companies make this from recycled plastic which is what I would aim for.

Sister in law has decking and when wet its dangerous. Seems to be an issue at my local pub as well. Though if its raining, snowing and bitterly cold its unlikely that the decking would be used anyway.

If I was likely to sell the property in the foreseeable future, I'd not install Millboard. Despite the substantial cost and design features dealing with issues like safety, people will still just see it as "that b****y decking stuff" and believe rats will be living under it too!

It's a decision I made recently. Going for boring concrete slabs instead!

I would also go with a patio or such. Our house had three separate sections of decking and it was foul stuff. Lethal in winter, noisy to walk over.

Tore up the decking to find a nice patio beneath; the mind boggles.

I have low level decking made from scaffold boards, I oiled the underside and whitewash the tops biennially. The only time it is slippy is when it is icy out, no different from anything else really.
Cheap decking will rot though, the stuff from DIY sheds if not treated. the plastic looks at best like the stuff from DIY sheds and at worst "plastic"
I have planters with saucers and have never had problems with rot or rats. I do have a hedgehog that lives under a section. The wood is much more forgiving with children falling than concrete.
