Faxing from PC

Im a bit flummoxed on how to fax from my PC. At work we have fax software that sorts this for you.

How would I go about doing this without having to pay loads of money!

or use https://www.fax1.com, you can then either fax through a virtual printer or from a web page anywhere on broadband/wifi, without being connected to a phone line.

Why spend money on something that can be done for free?

As Chippy Minton points out, Windows has a Fax service built in. And a free fax-to-email number can be obtained from several places, even with a local area code.
