Almost had a crash today because of these road markings

The sign also shows the 2nd exit as right, more right than the 1st is left, but the road marking of the 2nd lane is straight, so its inconsistent
However, the OP shoud not have been confused as he was never going anywhere but left!0 -
Even without taking the two pieces of information together, surely it's obvious which lane applies to which exit - it's a two-lane entrance to a roundabout with two exits...?
That apart, you can see that the first exit is deliberately shaped to make it an obvious route from the outer part of the roundabout.
BTW, looking on Google Streetview, the street image in question goes back to 2014, although there's a more recent image - 2017 - as the default, while the roadsign image is either from a different junction entirely or is cropped - the one on the roundabout has "Maldon B1022" above the zoo from the roundabout's creation between the 2012 and 2014 images...
Is there a particular reason for doing that, OP?

It is very obvious. Even more so, if you went into the right lane, where on earth do you think the left lane was heading for?
For all those who don't actually know this roundabout and are unnecessarily belittling the OP, there is now a new housing estate (not shown on those old images) to the left - the roundabout sign hasn't been updated, and the arrows on the lanes haven't been updated. So understandably confusing for the OP.0 -

No, it's now a two-lane entrance to a roundabout with three exits- there's a new housing estate immediately to the left, and the roundabout at the now second exit has been remodelled. The roundabout sign and lane markings haven't been updated, hence the OP's confusion.0 -
The 2017 streetview images show the building work for it going on.

And here for the road layout https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.875421,0.8322113,18.69z?hl=en
OPs coming from the North-East - Laurence Byrne Ave is the new housing estate road - OP wants to carry onto Warren Lane towards the zoo.0
