Must be quite a modern house then? I suppose that blockwork covered by mortar is cheaper than doing the whole of the outerskin in brick? So a cheap build to start with?

    Yup.

  • House was built early 90s so not that new. The area concerned is on the front elevation of the house, Approx half of that wall to the roof has been rendered. Top half to the roof render, bottom half brick. I suppose its a ‘feature’ for look only

It isn't a feature it is so that the builder hasn't had to use more expensive brick on the outer skin of the property. It is block work. Think grey breeze blocks under the render rather than brick. If you take the render off you will find blocks not bricks. The bricks at the side and bottom are the decoration for the look. The render is to cover the fact that the wall has been built without using much brickwork and so making the house cheaper to build.

This house has been built very cheaply. You might want to find out who the original building company was because that might also give you some idea of the quality of the build of the property.
