Boiler on side or front of house?

Have an quick question about the position of a the boiler during a replacement.

We had a quote from BG for replacing our old boiler (currently on the front of the house), it was up in the 3 grand mark, but one thing they said was the boiler and flue would need to go onto the side of the house, due to building regs. does anybody know if thats correct?

the front of our house (where the flue currently is) is our garden, on the side, well its public path with a flat over the top of it, so no idea where they place a flue out of the way.

Boiler and gas regulations (if they are regulations) change so regularly its hard to keep up, what's in today will be deemed "not the right way" next year.

    Have a look at this:
    https://www.thegreenage.co.uk/why-do-i-need-to-move-my-boiler-flue/
  • We live on a new build estate and most of the semi-detached house types have their boiler flue on the front of the house, so it isn't a regulation about siting the flue on the dwelling frontage.

It is more likely that the fluw will be too close to an opening window to satisfy the regulations if it was located on the front of your property.

As an aside I would get some quotes from a local company as they will without a doubt beat the British Gas quote to replace your boiler.

When I got quotes to install a combi and radiators to replace my old warm air heating BG were only £100 dearer than the only local installer who gave me a quote and he took a few weeks to actually quote after I got in touch.

Sometimes BG are the only option.
BG were there the next day when I asked for a quote.

I did end up getting the local installer but there were some problems, I don't know if BG would have been any better though.
