O/S Daily Friday 13th September 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, still warm - was another warm day yesterday got all the wash loads line dried as we had a good breeze too. Have the bed linen to wash which I'll do this morning, hoping to get it all line dried.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was HM chicken and mushroom pie, mash, HG green beans, broc, peas and gravy. Tonight we'll be having something quick to shove in the oven.
Yesterday I was quite productive, I got majority of what I wanted to get done - done although I must do some ironing today - I need a work shirt for tomorrow.
I'll be going to do the food shopping first thing, then take it steady doing the jobs at my own pace for the rest of the day.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
Will I ever be a Granny again? DD still here but going in to be induced this morning so there should be some news soon. She herself was 2 weeks late so just following on I suppose! Hopefully the baby should arrive before you go away RR!
After yesterday morning's horrid rain it was quite a nice afternoon. Decking chap came round later to say he would move the steps, should really have done that first but never mind, I'll just be glad to get it done one day.
Early finish for me so I'll go to the allotment and pull the rest of the onions, saving digging the pots until tomorrow.
Gers, you're such an angel, your DM is so lucky to have you look after her so well.
How is Lee getting on dumpling?
Happy Friday, take care. XX0 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.
I've been up since 5.30, so I know I'll be tired later, but couldn't lie there any longer, I was wide awake.
We cleaned our carpets and 3 piece suite yesterday, they definitely look better. It's been hard work though !! furniture moving, and so forth.
It'll just be tidying up today, and I've got a friend coming tonight.
Hope your dental treatment went to plan AOD, and you are feeling ok.
No news about the baby Camelot?
I've got no more news, I lead an awfully boring life.
Hope everyone has a good Friday anyway, whatever you are doing today.
I've just seen that your daughter is going to be induced today Camelot, hope all goes well for her.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I have been up for a little while so I saw Steve and Phoebe go off to work this morning. Lee will be up in a bit as he has a fairly early start today. He had to work in the college restaurant last night so he didn't get home until nearly 10pm. He just had time to take his meds and eat some dinner before going to bed. He is really enjoying the course so far though and has brought home bread rolls and soup he has made in class.
I hope your daughter's induction goes well today Camelot. I was 10 days late with Phoebe and ready to murder anyone who asked me whether I had had the baby yet :rotfl:. She was a bonny bouncing 9lb'er and has been the light of my life ever since.
I don't really have anything planned for today except to carry on with my spooky knitting. It looks like I will have to make several sets of the hamsters as everyone who has seen them wants one. They are fairly quick to knit up but the sewing up takes a long time as there are quite a few little tiny pieces to put together.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to. Thank you to those who suggested a perching stool, I have one coming so that will be a help I am sure. Take care xx0 -
Good morning everyone.
Camelot - I'll be thinking of your daughter today. She'll be glad to get to the finishing post.
Last night DM decided to clear out another batch of clothes. This time frocks from the 50s and 60s. Of course, she wanted to try everything on again so it all took ages. It was lovely very to see her enjoying fitting into many of the outfits. I took a photo of her wearing one of her previous favourites and then searched for and found a photo of her at an army mess dance with my father in 1959. Same dress, different body shape.
Today I'll be going to collect new bras from Marks and take some clothes to a CS. I'd like to find a vintage / retro shop if possible so will do an online search soon. I won £30.00 on the lottery so will spend it frivolously. :rotfl:
I hope all,our missing and poorlies are keeping their spirits up and wish everyone a happy Friday.
PS - fab to hear you're getting a perching stool dumpling.0 -
Morning all
Camelot that baby needs to come out before next Wednesday ! where I am going there is a very patchy internet connection so I need to know before I go pretty please ;-)
Off to work today only two more days so I think I can manage that, and tonight I am off round a girlfriends from work with another workmate to drink wine and have nibbles which I am very much looking forward to, its been one of those weeks and another workmate has said something quite upsetting to me which really hurt me so I shall be glad to have a wine and relax.
OH will treat himself to an Indian takeaway tonightand I will have a chicken breast, sweet pot and salad before I go out to prevent me eating too many crisps, I have lost 2lb this week, so only 2lb to go to 2.5 stone, which I would like to do for Wednesday but I doubt it will happen.
Taff I am thinking of you xx
Nels hope all is ok with you xx
Have good days all xx0 -
dumpling, did you manage to have the meeting you were so worried about?
Camelot, I feel your pain, I'm already impatient and Lara still has 6 weeks to go. Baby is very active which isn't the least bit surprising as both Laura and Brian are very energetic (I used to call Laura my Tigger, Chris was a lugubrious Eeyore).
I'm off to Laura's this morning to help sort out her kitchen cupboards. Steve, Chris and Brian are off for a day of golf at the local posh course.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Been reading along but not much to say.
Lovely to 'see' Holly and tru posting , nelski hope you are okay.
Camelot thinking of you and your daughter today
Thoughts are with taff.
Life here is much the same, which is probably a good thing.
Take careIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc.
I think I'm fully recovered from the dentist, it was a real marathon session but less painful than I feared and did not have root canal treatment. I've 3 temporary crowns at the front, plus my false on a plate, which I hate. The false, not the crowns. Back in 2 weeks although the ceramicist may need to have the false on a plate for part of a day, not great as it is at some distance. Never mind.
Back to not sleeping very well so got up at 4 and I have towels out on the line.
Friday Tidy looms, it looks like the invasion of the Swamp People here and I might relocate to Darkest Peru where it could be tidier.
Camelot, not long to wait if today is induction day!
Redruby I am sorry you have been upset.
Gers vintage clothing is very popular and I bet you will find someone keen to take your mum's things.
Dumpling well done to Lee.
I hope everyone has as good a day as possible and am thinking of our missing friends.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Camelot I hope that the baby comes quickly when your daughter is induced.
Snoozer not long for you to wait now as well.
AOD I'm glad that your trip to the dentist was not as bad as you feared and that you are not in pain now.
Redruby enjoy your drinks and nibbles this evening. I'm sorry that someone has upset and hurt you.
Dumpling it sounds like Lee is settling into his course well, I'm pleased that he has found his true vocation.
I'm going out to the supermarket as soon as I get off the internet. I need a few things that I can't get locally and then I'm going to meet a friend for coffee and a bit of people watching.
The forecast is good for here today, so I put a load in the WM as soon as I got up and have pegged that out, it should dry ok.
Other than that I don't have any plans for the rest of the day, I will do some housework when I get back.
I hope that those who are struggling and caring for poorly people are ok.
Have a good day everyone x0 -
In my garden so far this morning:
Robin
Sparrow
Blackbird
Mr Portly Pigeon
Magpie
2 parent or carer rats of indeterminate gender
1 baby ratI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
