The laptop is running Windows 8.1 not Windows 8.
How do I find out which Windows 8.1 update I am running?
It doesn't matter which you are running. More than likely 3 but it makes no difference if you want to reset anyway.
If you swap to an SSD, you can kill two birds with one stone. Not only cure the speed issue, but it will be a lot faster than when new.
It will also give you the option of trying out Windows 10 without disturbing what you have on your current drive.
If you want to try a refresh or reset on your existing drive, look here; https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17085/windows-8-restore-refresh-reset-pc
If you need Windows 8.1 media, you can find it here; https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows8ISO0 -

Thanks.
I used the first link you posted to Microsoft Support pages.
Followed the instructions: Settings - Restore - Reset
It rest the laptop in about 1 hr.
I didn't go into the very basic screen (BIOS?) or the command prompt type screen.
I just used Windows 8.1 to rest the laptop.0 -

I'm planning to sell this laptop and get a desktop PC with a SSD.0
