BG or possible scam?

Hmmm - answered the door to a young chap, booted and suited and carrying what appeared to be British Gas ID.
He announced that he needed access to our house in order to carry out a compulsary smart meter pre installation inspection. Mr S told him in no uncertain terms that we didn't want a smart meter, and that it wasn't compulsary to have one. Chap got a bit snippy, and insisted on access. He didn't get it.
We rang British Gas to ask if this chap was kosher, and the person we spoke to didn't know what we were talking about. OK, it could have been a case of 'left hand, right hand' but, even if he was genuine, he was wrong to insist that we HAD to have a smart meter fitted.
On the other hand, he could have been trying to case the joint....... especially as this was in the middle of a working day, and he would have had no idea that we were both retired.

Is your energy supplier BG ?
If not, then certainly a scam, and perhaps worthy of a call to the police.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
