Bank Cheque down the drain!

I managed to drop a £700 Bank Cheque into the garden drain.
I contacted the Bank and they told me that uncashed cheques revert back to the issuing account after about six months.
Is this true so i have not lost that money?

Unless the cheque is cashed by someone else then you haven't lost the money.

What exactly do you mean by 'a Bank Cheque'?

Have you contacted the issuer and explained the situation?
Asked them to cancel and reissue the cheque?

  • He probably means banker's draft (/cheque). Those can be reissued if you contact the bank and explain you lost it.

Its now 13 September, so why do you mention what the bank will no longer do from November:cool:

Whether it is a Bankers Draft or a cheque, no money will leave your account until it is presented for payment.

Remove grate and fish out the cheque. Use rubber gloves if squeamish. Air dry the cheque then flatten with a cool iron.
