PAYG to standard credit meters
Hello,
My partner and I moved into a rented flat earlier this year and inherited prepay gas (British Gas) and electricity (EDF) meters. We are very keen to switch to credit meters to save money. I can't seem to find online if suppliers will switch my meters to standard credit meters (not smart meters).
I've spoken to EDF on the phone and they are suggesting I get a 2nd generation smart meter that has prepay and credit functionality. We would really rather standard credit meters as these are what we are comfortable with and what our landlord has agreed to. My question is if the EDF salesperson is just being difficult by trying to steer me towards the smart meter or if suppliers flat-out aren't installing standard credit meters anymore.
Our plan is to get standard credit meters installed through BG and EDF and then switch to a cheaper tariff as soon as we can as we're conscious how much we're currently paying and how much we could be saving, but we are hopelessly confused at the moment just trying to get credit meters sorted.
Apologies if this is a repeated question, I did search the forum first and couldn't find a straightforward answer.
Thanks in advance!

What is your objection to smart meters then?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Being a smart meter wont affect how it works as a meter. Highly likely many of the new deals you're heading for will expect you to install a smart meter if you haven't got one.0
