Bulb Energy & Prepaid Meter

Hello,
I have a prepaid meter for both gas and electric with BOOST Energy. The reason I have this is because I can’t guarantee a payment on a monthly basis so can’t risk a direct debit being missed.
Martin Lewis from the “Money Saving Expert” says that you give the best deal for prepaid meter holders?? See link below.
However, when I went to sign up it says you don’t offer this type of meter??
Please can anyone clarify the situation as I am keen to sort a better and cheaper deal.

Hi Record-Maker,
If you're with Boost, it's likely you have a 'smart' prepay meter, which aren't all that common in the prepayment world. At the moment, Bulb can't support smart prepayment meters so when you go through Bulb's site, you'll see this message:
"Your smart prepayment meter will be switched to a credit meter by your supplier before you join us. This means you'll pay for your energy through Direct Debit."
We'll try and make the messaging for this so it's clearer on our end for users who are on smart prepayment meters.
I hope this helps explain.0 -
Nabah Energy are a tad cheaper than Bulb on the CAB comparison site for prepayment meters, at least in my area in S.Yorks . Bulb are the next cheapest. Maybe Nabah Energy can accept your present smart meter.Looking at the nabah website, if the serial number of your meter has a letter P on third digit , the meters are Secure Liberty0

Hi,
More info on whether Nabah can support your meter can be found here:
https://www.nabuhenergy.co.uk/acceptable-meters/
It's a bit technical so if you have any questions about your meter 'class' etc, then you may wish to contact your supplier so it can confirm this info for you.
We've changed our messaging on our site now so it's clearer that Bulb can't accept those on smart prepayment meters. Thanks for highlighting this to us.

if there is a letter P on the meter serial number I think that means it is a Secure Liberty 100 meter. These meters are used by many small suppliers, and most likely Boost have selected this meter.0
