Your the second person today that’s mentioned living to work! I think so many people feel the same, everyone’s just treading water not progressing with anything in life. It’s hard but it will improve in time, that’s what we’ve got to keep telling ourselves anyway

Mmm, the scales dilemma. You can buy dry ingredient measuring jugs for about a fiver or for yorkshire pudding batter you could just rule of thumb it - I think its 4 tablespoons of flour, 4 of milk and 4 of water to each egg.
Food plans sound good and it does sound as if you slip into the booze a little too easily so might need to make some rules for yourself.
Hope the test comes back negative
Have the family been friendly/in touch since you left (if that's not too personal)?
  • Glad you are feeling better and it definitely sounds like you have overdone the alcohol and too many late nights.  Meal plan sounds good.  I love toad in the hole but don't often make it.  Not sure why.

Yeah, a good mate I go for strolls with just feels like everything is pointless, he’s working his butt off (lawyer) and just doesn’t see the point right now...but yeah, won’t last forever...need to get back to one day at a time mode...this all started when I decided to check the calendar for when this lockdown will end ha.

I do have a set of measuring spoons, also have a 1 litre jug that also measures in cups...so that could work. Recipe I learned when helping with the roast was something like 115g flour, 115ml milk, three medium eggs and a pinch of salt. Not sure if it’s a different consistency for toad in the hole though...

Definitely slip into the booze easily  Actually been really good for a while but have been drinking a lot here every weekend. Even if one weekend I only drank on the Friday. Went through a phase of getting tired after a few drinks after being off the booze for ages, so thought I had fixed the not wanting to stop once I start ha. Probably the low of lockdown exacerbating things...and drinking makes you forget it all until the next morning ha.

Yeah, have caught up with them a few times, usually on the weekly family quiz thing but also separately. Their log burner is in now so they thanked me for that the other day ha. Text quite a bit, probably most days. Usually sending me pictures of the dog and/or cat ha. I’m not sure much has changed with the vibe of the house but they’ve been through a lot as a family even without lockdown. Hopefully things will improve once life is back to normal and people aren’t trapped in a box together for an unnatural proportion of their time.

Yeah, I had that same thought. It’s one of my favourite meals and not that complicated and yet I’ve never made it for myself...I did used to be a bit of a health freak with my cooking though and would only ever cook myself boring stuff like chicken and broccoli...yet would go out drinking ha and wouldn’t be bothered when eating out...

You couldn’t make this up...in bed trying to get to bed and for the third night running Thames water are outside the window angle grinding and whatever else. As I sit here and type I just heard a bloke shout out of the window “!!!!!! with that noise that’s three nights running” plus other expletives. Sure they’re echoing what every one else is thinking. He’s now down there going spare asking why they don’t do it in the day...got to agree and it’s getting later every night...

It’s normally really peaceful, quietest area I’ve lived in in London ha.

That’s a good shout actually...even Waitrose is on there and Amazon fresh are next day, so there are options...But fingers crossed won’t need it when the result comes in...

Also just googled and a level cup is 120gs of flour so basically perfect for the recipe I have...though on reflection thinking it was 2 eggs and maybe more milk...will have to ask ha. Remember when I made pizza from memory of a recipe I watched on the tv...got it spot on...except I put a teaspoon of salt in the dough instead of a pinch

Reasonable nights sleep...seem to have fixed the waking up, just need to sort the getting to sleep...not helped by the fact the noisy water works didn’t end until about 12.30am.

Pay is showing as pending...£122 extra after tax so bonus must’ve been about £250. Pisstake to be honest and would rather have had amazon vouchers as tax free then! 12 hour days for months for £122 quarterly bonus...all because we’re over budget but still leaves a sour taste. Can get !!!!!! if they think I’m working like a dog while we’ve got no staff...not my boss’ fault but no wonder they were cagey about the amount...not anyone’s fault except the public sector way of working tbh.

  • We don't get bonuses from LA it's ridiculous.

Have you tried relaxing melodies app it's good for helping to get to sleep and you can set a timer so it's not on all night. I use it all the time and have major issues sleeping without.

Same for LA working. No bonuses and barely any pay-rises - I've been in my role 8 years and in that time I've had a 2.75% and a 1% pay rise! And I think there is a pay freeze on LA pay for the next 3 years!

In terms of night time routine, have you tried headspace? I have the free version (I think the full version is £7.95 a month) and you get a few sleep podcasts and peaceful music playlists - that sometimes does the trick!

I know I shouldn’t complain in the current climate but it is quite insulting with the slog I’ve put in. If they don’t let me do the masters then once I hit a year I’m offski to another department. A mate who earns the same base in private sector got a £30k bonus...Uncle got £30k bonus for one quarter...neither even went to uni. Things like this make me question my choices

I’ll check out the apps. Did some sleep story thing the other night and did fall asleep eventually...but hoping things will just fix with waking up earlier.
