Monese App - cannot open - stuck on loop

Anyone encounter this. Trying to open monese app, soon after fingerprint ID, you see message 'an unexpected error occurred. sorry for the inconvenience. please restart the app.',
Restarting gives the same error message and you end up going round in a loop. Like Groundhog Day. I tried to break through the loop by killing the app, releasing the cache data, logging off then logging back in.
The last bit got me in a right pickle. First it asked me to enter pin code. Even though, I entered the correct one, it locked me out after a three attempts.
Tried calling support. Of course it was after 5 pm, so, recorded message saying call back during 8 am-5 pm. Next day called back just after 8 am. After a bit of a wait got to speak to an agent who advised me to update app. Did this via play store. I believe he released the lock at this point and asked me login. Tried. App asked for PIN. Entered the same, this time it went through. Now I've set it to fingerprint so no need keep entering PIN.
Anyone having same issue, updating app should do the trick. Of course the app will never tell you this. Kinda left to our own devices (pun intended) to figure it out.

The update worked a treat, so I left sleeping dogs lie, and left it at that. I'll keep your suggestion to hand if and when this happens with the monese app or other app (where the update feature doesn't do the trick) or I'm short on disk space.0 -
I only just registered last week and don't remember a fingerprint step?
I do remember the busy icon was spinning around for a long time, I just retried until it worked.
My Monese bonus went in quite quickly too.0 -

You can manually enable it by tapping the top left icon (looks like a person, or user), tap 'settings', slide the slider 'login with your fingerprint'.
p.s: not sure if the above is the same on all phones.0
