Advice needed on a cancelled car purchase from a few years ago
Hi all
I'm hoping for some advice, I'm pretty stressed out just now so any help is appreciated.
A few years ago I bought a car on PCP from a well known retailer. After picking the car up I noticed an issue after just a few miles and returned to the dealership within about 30 mins. Long story short they accepted it had a fault and cancelled the deal, they just returned my car to me and said they wouldn't process the sale. They said they would get the car fixed and if I still wanted it I could basically re-buy it, however when I phoned about a week later to see what had happened with this they said the car had now been sold to someone else.
A few days later I got a letter from the finance company (arranged through the dealer) that seemed to imply the sale had taken place, eventually this was sorted out and the loan was closed.
It always bothered me that I never received any paperwork confirming the sale had been cancelled, today I was checking mot and tax for my own car and out of interest decided to check this other car that I'd returned, to my surprise it's never been through an mot. I'm now very worried that the sale was never cancelled and essentially the car is still mine but I've (a) never paid for it, (b) never mot'd it
Also, literally about 3 months after this cancelled sale I moved house so wouldn't have got any mail about mot from dvla etc.
Does anybody have any advice on this, am I worrying about nothing? Is there anything I can do to put my mind at ease or am I potentially opening a can of worms?
Thanks

Did you get a V5 stating the car had been transferred to you?0

Sounds like the car got written off ?0

What's weird is that it's been taxed last year but never been through mot (should have had 3 by now)0

No I never did (well I can't remember ever getting one, I'm sure if I had I would have chased it up) would I have received a letter from dvla? I moved house within a few months of this happening0

Contact DVLA to check if you are still registered as the current keeper.

Sorry, I can't seem to reply directly to posts for some reason.
A few responses:
The car has not been changed to a private reg as I checked a friend's cars old reg (which was recently changed to private) and basically it shows up differently.
The car has been taxed last year but not been through mot (which was due before tax) which I really don't understand0 -
