Car on PCP Advice

So on Saturday I will be picking up a new car.

It's not a brand new car, its a 2017 Polo Blue GT.

Now as part of the PCP the dealer did add 2 years service and MOT into the price.

Now I think I'm going to ask for this to be taken out as I would be paying interest on this over the 4 years I would have the car on PCP.

I take it that im right in thinking its probably a waste of money as I have a local garage I go to the MOT's and services and they are really good and honest and only ever do something if its really needed.

I have a feeling the dealers garage would want things fixing for the sake of it if I went with their MOT and service plans.

Also GAP insurance do you guys know of any good companies and bad companies to stay away from?

Many Thanks,

Rich

I think the two services are offered free as part of their used car PCP offer.

You might want to check / negotiate the PCP interest rate as it could be as high as 10.9% APR.

Personally, i would get the car serviced by VW as long as its under VW warranty. Not "essential", but more likely to get goodwill gestures if theres any grey areas.

They cant insist you get any non servicing work done by them. You could take their recommendations and have them corrected by your own mechanic.

GAP - check on the main MSE site, but the likes of click4gap etc offer it.

The VW dealer may well price match a cheaper quote.
  • Well the original price was £175 a month with me putting £100 down from my current car.

With the extra years warranty, 2 x services and 2 x MOT's it came to £196.

The interest rate was pretty good at 4.4% for the PCP. The garage is Arnold Clark and not s VW Garage.

My thinking is with the warranty it doesnt run out until June next year and then at the point I can always get used car warranty if I wish.

and as I have already said with the MOT's and services I dont think adding that onto the monthly PCP is the best thing as interest will be added onto it.

    Apologies - i "assumed" a VW garage. :o

    Good rate on the PCP.

Yes i'd take the services and MOT out of the PCP agreement
  • Great.

I know they will offer me them for a seperate one off price but I always wonder if those things are worth it. As I say I have a local garage that I turst for MOT's and services

If you have a trusted local guy, i'd use him. Arnold Shark dont get a great name for customer service.

I'd get the service done by VW when still under warranty.
  • Ahh OK I didnt know that.

How do they rate for selling used cars?

I'm going from having a Yaris and have had them for the last 10 years and they never fail.

Would hate to buy a car from a dealer who have a bad rep.

I would say their bad rep is over stated.

Ultimately - the car is under manufacturers warranty so it doesnt matter as its the VW dealer you'd be taking it to.

We bought a Nissan some years ago from a car supermarket. Worst experience ever. We bought the car in spite of the sales team, rather than with the aid of. Terrible. BUT the car was only 9 months old so any warranty issues it would have went back to Nissan.
