Does a claim on someone else's policy affect your No Claims?

Good morning

If you make a claim on someone else's policy, does it affect your NCD? I'm aware obviously i'd have to declare it on my future policy but as it's not on my insurance, my insurance is due to give me 4 years No Claim Discount at next renewal next year - assuming I don't have to claim.

I was forced into a hedge/trees last night by an oncoming driver, maybe they were drunk i'm not sure but they certainly weren't "in lane". I was fuming but calmed down today and now just trying to think about what will happen.

I was driving a family member's car, on which I am a named driver. If it is worth going through insurance then it'd be helpful to know whether it's possible next policy to retain my 4 year no claim discount and also have a registered claim; or whether it will void the NCD.
I'm dreading my renewal already due to speeding penalty last week..

As for the accident itself; the wing mirror was snapped off and I had a brief look in the daylight today before I went to work. and there is large black marks/scratches along the length of the car and windows scratched too. Front has some marks/scratches too.
I don't know if there is any way of finding out who the other driver was. No idea what the reg was, all I know it was a dark colour hatchback, Clio/Corsa/Fiesta size. (not a fiesta though I'm sure of that.)
I've been in a hit and run before but the car wasn't worth much so didn't bother fixing the dent. This is more severe damage and I imagine will be more than the insurance excess so will have to go through insurance.
Think a dashcam would make a nice Xmas present this year.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It won't affect your no-claims bonus, as you are not making a claim under your policy.
However, you have had an accident, and must declare that, so your policy will increase in price.

Check your policy T&Cs carefully, you may have to inform them now of your accident, certainly they will ask at renewal, and you must tell them then.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    Thanks.

I'll be changing car at renewal so will try and get a cheaper car to insure. Points and an "at-fault" claim in past year and young driver... just fantastic. Brilliant. Love it.
