Hi,
The locks on one of my windows has broken. The lock has been unlocked with the key, however whenever I press down I cannot twist the handle up to open. It just stays jammed. Is there anything I can try before I ring the locksmith, which I really dont want to do.
Thanks!

UPDATE: because it is actually a broken button not handle, i have created a new thread here forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=76270466#post76270466 copy and paste into browser

  • Can you remove the handle from the window? There may be a screw under a vanity patch (to hide the screw, they can be prised off). Unfortunately, the other screw may be concealed by the closed handle...

What about taking one of the good handles offand using as a pattern to buy a new one the same hand as the one that is u/s,hacksaw thru the handle shaft and remove the screws and replace, job done.
  • You could try banging on the frame hard & fast while keeping slight pressure on the handle.
    Might work.
  • If you google "How to remove jammed window handle" you will find several explanations on U Tube.
