Solar PV with Battery Storage

I have read Martin's article on Solar PV panels not being worth it, since the demise of the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme in March 2019. However, my recent experience is Solar PV with Battery Storage solutions, where they are using AI controlled system that sells and buys to the GRID aim to tap into cheap overnight rates for buying (if you need more than you battery has stored), and selling when rates are high around peak consumption times.

Does anyone have experience of this, and is there any evidence of real financial gain form these systems, as as these system with batteries are even more expensive that Solar PV only systems.

Best place to ask this is in the Green and Ethical sub-forum where there are some relevant threads about this ongoing.
General consensus (I think, it’s complicated!j seems to be that you’d struggle to pay for itself unless you’ve got a specific use case. That said, I’m investigating adding batteries to an existing system whilst adding some panels at the same time.

I don't have any experince of the set up you have, but I am really interested to hear of your own experiences with your set up (as I am sure many other moneysavers would be) , particularly if you feel it is saving you money. :)

Conversely, I would also be pleased to hear even if your experience of this more complicated (and presumably costly) set up also results in same outcome as MSE suggest for the usual set-up. i.e. that it's still 'not worth it' .

It's hard to see how this makes financial sense in terms of selling energy. But I love the idea in terms of energy self-sufficiency and would be investigating if I owned a property.

With the price of a reasonable amount of storage still up at the £5-£8k mark, I reckon it will be sometime before they become economic.

The driver will probably be electric vehicles.
