O/S Daily Tuesday 10th September 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, damp underfoot and air is chilly.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying a first cuppa with my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and vegetables. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, beans and mushrooms or I may just cook the sausages and use up the LO veg to go with them. If I do that I'll roast some potatoes also as there's no potatoes as LO's. I'll decide when I get in - depends what sort of day I've had! I'm working at the other office today - but quite enjoy that for a change each week.
Yesterday started off quiet and then became quite manic, was busy then all morning - we had issues with the cash up first thing where the money wouldn't balance and the a float was incorrect and had the wrong monies in it - so that didn't start the day well. The cash then wouldn't balance last night either due to someone doing something to the machine - we got there in the end but was a bit late out, then stopped at the SM to pick up a loaf of bread.
We'll see what today brings! Hopefully it'll be ok.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
Still no baby!
Great weekend with the family, it'll take me all week to catch up with everything! Tidied all the toys away last night and changed the big bed but will have to work my way through the towels.
DS2 met up with DD yesterday and she took him to the airport, it's always such a whirlwind when he visits.
Swimming this morning - didn't go yesterday then another manic day at work followed by a trip to the hygienist.
Hope everyone's well. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Stopped raining here at some time in the early hours and it looks to be quite a nice day here although colder than it has been. We lit the log burner last night as we were both sitting here shivering with blankets on us so we have the first light of the season it was bliss and so cosy and warm I also put the electric blanket on for a while before bed.
Off to work for me but after today only four days left at work before holiday, I have a few bits of toiletries to buy at the weekend and we shall pack Sunday.
OH has pizza for dinner tonight with salad, I shall have a chicken breast with loads of veg.
Camelot that baby is certainly keeping you all waiting !!
Thinking of Taff xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning.
What a dull day it was yesterday, outside and inside. After all the prep for the window cleaner I saw that his car had gone so I put everything back into place. An hour later he turned up. Seems he went off for lunch as the rain started. Has to rush around again.
By the time he'd finished and I'd sorted the house and fed DM I CBA'd to go into town or do any shopping so those are for today. The window cleaner took down the net curtain in 'my' bedroom so I could wash it. Now it's clean but still grey.
I made a pot of soup yesterday but forgot to cook the haricot beans first so they stayed inedible. Will do better today. That was after the waste of time making courgette fritters. All that grating, pressing, leaving overnight, squeezing etc just to get a tiny amount of veg. Then I added breadcrumbs, onion and flour whilst completely forgetting the egg to bind it all. Not doing that again. :rotfl:
So, all to catch up with today. My thoughts are with all our missing friends. Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Nothing much happening here. Spent some time watching a squirrel, he/she came into the garden, hid a nut in a plant pot and then ran along the fence, came back a few minutes later and did the same. Lovely to see.
Thinking of all those finding life difficult and remembering absent friends. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning :hello:
Remember me?:rotfl:
I decided to spend less time on the internet for a while – I was spending a lot of time reading and talking about things I wanted to do and left myself no time to actually do any of the thingsI've just realised it's been months since I've spoken to anyone online.
I wondered if my routine had become so set in stone that I ended up boring myselfso I decided to do things when I felt like it, rather than because it's the 'right' time of day to do them. Turned out most things stayed the same

I bought a new shed for the chickens, they settled in within two days.
Mum and dad celebrated their 50th wedding aniiversary this year so we all went out for a meal at their favourite place – the Beefeater
I replaced the old raspberry plants with new ones, only half of them have grown but they look great and the berries are delicious.
Went to a fab wedding, only downside was it was on one of the really hot days at the end of July, the service was outside at 2pm in full sun. I wilted A LOT
My old lady chicken Mogs died in July, she was 10 years, 3 months oldShe was one of my first chickens – we bought four when they were a few weeks old. It feels very odd without her here, keeping the others in line. Also lost Rosie last month, she was just 3 years old

Scampi was irritated by the heat and a bit bored because his walks were early morning and late night, he had hardly any outside time during the day. He's usually allowed to wander in and out of the garden when he feels like it so was not at all happy with me, lol.
We've finally got the roof sorted – some tiles had come off and a few along the sloping edge (ridge?) were cracked and loose. The tiles were OK along the top but the mortar was crumbling so those were glued back on properly too. And we capped off the chimney (two were already done but one hadn't been, for some reason). This means I can remove the pillow I'd stuffed up the chimney after a pigeon made it's way down into the lounge, causing Scampi to have great fun trying to catch itI lassoed him with his lead and shut him out of the room, the pigeon seemed OK apart from messy feathers where he'd tried to fly back up the chimney. I smoothed his feathers down and sat him on the back of the sofa next to the open window with a bowl of water. He didn't move for about 20 minutes, then drank a bit of water, stood up and launched himself outside, where he was joined by his mate. I watched them fly off together

FIL hasn't been very well for a while, the three sons have been running themselves ragged doing things around the house (major sorting, involving tip runs and a skip) and trying to sort medical care. Why is this so difficult? And why, when things have been noted on the computer system, don't the various medical people check these notes when dealing with him? When one of us points out that X medic said this last week, Y medic has no idea about it. Ggggrrrr. Us three DILs have been careful not to get involved, but just deal with non-personal care things that can be done in our own homes – paperwork and post (me) and his washing (DIL3). DIL2 can't do much, they have a severely autistic adult son who needs constant supervision, obviously with her hubby trying to help his dad, all of their son's care has been left to her. I think she has the hardest job of all.
I think that's everything, might remember more later and pop back in to update

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Welcome back tru, you have been missed, please give scampi a little pat from me.
It has stopped raining so I need to get some washing on the go, whether or not it will dry is a moot point but it does need to be done, there are at least 3 loads waiting. How 3 people generate so much washing is a mystery.
After the excitement of the green woodpecker in the garden on Sunday, we had a pair of birds that I couldn't identify yesterday. They were brown with a tinge of russet, bigger than a blackbird but less chunky than a magpie and quite long beaks. Right now there are 2 magpies, a fat wood pigeon plus one rat. A squirrel has just arrived, cleary it was thinking of you silver-oldie. Have not yet seen any robins, sparrows or blackbirds but they will be along soon I hope.
At some point I need to pop to the shops so am hoping it stays dry.
Hope our absent friends are doing okI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Welcome back tru, nice to see you.
Stroke Club today so I'm cooking for 30, don't know what I'm cooking yet, I'll see when I get there.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Welcome back Tru, I have missed the tales of Scampi xx
It is a dull and dry day here. It is Lee's first day of his new course at college and he is very nervous still. Hopefully he will cope ok once he gets there and settles in. Phoebe has a day off so I am not all on my lonesome which is nice.
I have a meeting with my mental health worker and a social worker this afternoon. I am really worried about it and have already cancelled the first appointment I had with them. My fingers are twitching to cancel this one too but I think I need to find out what they actually want.
I will be cooking some beef in my instant pot for a pie filling later on. We have some beef leftover from Sunday but not enough for all of us so I have a pack of stewing beef in the fridge ready to cook. I will add carrots and leeks for flavour and colour.
Well, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good Morning chums ,RL gets in the way at times doesn't it .I had a lymphedema flare up on my bad arm for a week .A tiny cut on my finger inflamed my whole right arm to a bright slarlet and made me feel decidedly poorly.Luckily I always have a course of anti biotices in the house so last Tuesday night when I had to come home early from quiz night because I felt so poorly I started on them straight away and spent the next few days in bed slowly recovering. its a blooming nuisance as it gives you (apart from a very inflamed and swollen arm ) a feeling of a very nasty dose of 'flu like symptoms.Completely flors you foe several days .But I am fit and well again now so life is back to normal once more
I am off to Devon next week for a short break with my DDs Ma-in-Law as she wanted to go there and didn't want to go on her own She lost her lovely OH Frank last year and they often holidays in Torquay and she said she would love to go again. So if you see tow little old dears tottering along the front at Torquay next week its likely to be us .She wants to sit and have a bag of chips and a cornet as she used to so I am quite happy to go along with thatWe are going by coach so no driving for me for a week
a nice rest for us both. Its full board with a couple of days out included and evening entertainment thrown in, so no cooking either for a week
things just get better and better
I am eating up my fresh stuff this week so there will be an empty fridge again by the time I go away. When I come home the next day I have to take DGS Jack back to Hertfordshire to Uni and the following week its DGS Henry off to his Uni in Essex
Only DGS Mikey to keep in line for a couple of months until the Christmas break so life will get even easier
Hope all is well with everyone on here and Happy Birthday to those celebrating today and <<hugs>>for those who are in need of one .
Right the kettle is calling me so I had better get a move on This morning I am off to U3A coffee morning to see some friends at Dobbies and tonight its quiz night at the pub ,so no cooking for me tonight
Take care all

Nice to see you Tru.
Today is day two of my resolution to get showered and dressed before coming downstairs, I was wasting half the day before getting dressed and I'm not a person who can do housework in nightclothes.
We have decided to turn the Yorkshire house into a holiday let and yesterday had a meeting with someone who does all the admin for you on Airbnb. He's persuaded us to market it for October half-term but we might change our minds about that as I don't think we'll be ready.
It's three years since Chris and Crystal's legal wedding today. That was an odd day - Steve was in hospital having an emergency stent fitted because of a kidney stone, C & C shocked the registrar by turning up in jeans and without a ring and the best man missed the ceremony! They count the Italian ceremony a week later as their official anniversary though so that's ok.
Better crack on as we have lots to do here.0
