Boxing in Pipes

Hi All,

I'm hoping one of you can help me. We have just moved our boiler from the bedroom to the loft. I'm so pleased with the extra space, but we now have 6 parallel pipes running down the middle of the bedroom wall, as well as a wire for the boiler as the switch has stayed downstairs.

I'm no DIY guru, so I am anxious about building my own boxing (although will do if it is the only option). Is anybody aware of a simpler option? I have seen lots of plastic products on the market to hide one or two pipes, but nothing wide enough to hide 6!

Thanks very much

Sam

When you box in the pipes, it would be well worth putting some insulation around the pipes. This will increase the depth of any boxing needed.. Insulating the pipes won't save much in the way of energy or money, so it is up to you if you decide to do it.

The moulded things are very pretty, but being melamine-faced they might not take paint so well and I wouldn't want to make a feature of them myself.

Securing a couple of sanded battens to the wall and covering them with MDF, glued and pinned, is possible, even for me. I would have a go, getting the MDF cut a little larger than needed , say 3mm, at the wood yard/ store and sanding back when preparing to paint it.

The second of the two plastic jobbies still needs battens and I'm not sure how the first is fixed.

I assumed at £87.36 it came with a man to fit it!

  • Sam, can you add a pic (you may need to add a few spaces to the link so we can upload it here).

You don't want a shoddy or expensive option and I suspect there may be a better alternative (thinking some sort of faux breast to the wall).....
