Eversmart issue

I wonder if anyone can help. I knew Eversmart were in trouble after not receiving bills from them for months (despite stupidly allowing them to install a smart meter) so I switched from them to So Energy. At this point they blocked the switch as we owed a few hundred pounds. I swiftly paid this off and the switch took place.
However, I then realised they had continued to take our direct debit for a couple of months, netting themselves around £250. I contacted them and they blamed So Energy for not providing readings but agreed to stop taking my money. However, they hadn't paid it back before going bust.
My question is, will the new supplier that Ofgem chooses to take on Eversmart's customers have to re-pay me and if so, how will they know I'm owed money? Has anyone been through this themselves who could offer me some reassurance? I switched away from them precisely to avoid this sort of situation!

Yes, you are fully protected in this regardsPhilippa Pickford, Ofgem’s director for future retail markets, said:
“Eversmart Energy customers do not need to worry, as under our safety net we’ll make sure your energy supplies are secure and domestic customers’ credit balances are protected. If you need further support, Eversmart Energy is advising customers to check the Ofgem website – the regulator has a comprehensive set of FAQs here – or call Citizens Advice on 03454 040506.I recently closed my account. Will I get back the credit I’m owed?
We’ll look to appoint a new supplier who will pay back money due to customers that's outstanding from closed accounts. Costs for energy you have used but have not yet been billed for will be deducted from your account balance.0
